I'm definitely going to buy this now. I can't stop laughing half the time during cutscenes. The way Verric, Merrill, and Isabella react with each other while walking around is absolutely golden. They are by far my favorite companion setup of all time! Definitely give it a try.

The DA community didn't like DA2, because it was less a RPG with micromanagement, and more a action game.
Many reviewers did give it a bad review, because it was so different and more colsole like than DA:O.
Tha game has it's moments, and I liked it, but there was some things that I did dislike.
DA:O was one of the latest games ever made when it came. WIth expansion it's a 25GB game, DA2 was 7 GB.
WHere in DA:O all dungeons and such was different, but DA2 uses a lot of "recycling", you'll notice that several of the dungeons are just a modified version of another you've played before. (Much like Skyrim).
This would save the devs time, and make the game smaller in size.
The game was also released Mac/PC on same DVD, which was great and the Cider build they used (5413) has proven itself to be the most reliable Cider engine so far.
I had good fun with DA2 and there are tons of mods available, but I still think DA:O was the better game.

But to me, DA2 was a step up tech wise. The animation was so much better. I actually felt like I was playing a proper RPG, not Runescape, with it's terrible "stab, step back, rinse, repeat" approach to combat. Also, the script is absolutely hilarious DA:O's attempts at humor were charming, but definitely lacking knee-slapper material.

Compared to other RPGs the last few years DA2 ain't so bad. Yes it does reuse dungeons, but so do many other games. There are at times a pretty ok story, and the companions are actually good. I still remember Varric, Isabela, Merill and Anders very good. There was some good and hilarious conversations and cutscenes.
Look at games like Oblivion, there is hardly any conversation. All NPCs says the exact same thing to you, you can flip a wheel to get influence (who got this idea? that dev must be drunk). Three times I've started playing it and I've never managed to play more than 10 hours before I give up and do something else.
I do almost only play RPGs and I've finished very many RPGs, including DA series, Gothic 1,2,3, Divinity, Two Worlds 2, BG series, Skyrim, Morrowind, Fallout 1,2,3,NV (although 3 and NV isn't really RPGs anymore, same with ME series, played all).
If a game is great I usually finish it within a month after I buy it, if it'd good within half a year and if I don't finish it, well I need to have fun to finish a game.
I did actually finish DA2 after a month, but it left me somewhat unsatisfied, but I did make myself time for a few hours a few times a week (you need roughly 30-40 hours ti finish DA2 I guess), which you don't do with a bad game.

One think I did not like is almost being stuck using Andres if you were not a mage for healing. You could play with Bethany for Act 1. I never liked Andres in Dragon Age 1 either. Andres wined about being a mage the whole game and it got annoying. I finished the game and was disappointed. I also did not like some inconsistencies in Choices I made in game 1 that did not actually make sense in game 2, ie the dialogue was wrong as they used Choice X form Dragon Age when I actually made Choice Y.
I liked Varric, and Isabela however.

Agreed. But the story was still epic. Finished it, satisfied with the ending, didn't buy DLC.
