Porting Request:
Hello everyone !
First of all, i wanted to say that it's a nice pleasure to see a website dynamic and
your work is really amazing !
i'm not afraid to buy windows games since i know the porting team
because it always works and it's really nice ! (sorry for my english, i am french.)

I wanted to ask you something really hard to do. But i think that if you don't know this game (mod in fact)
you're gonna wanted it :P
It's about the game : ArmA II Arrowhead. I saw that an other person wanted this game, but i'm asking for something most specific.
The game is called ArmA II and Arrowhead is an expansion to it. but what's interest me the most
is to work on my mac ArmA II Arrowhead, WITH the mod DayZ (a zombie mod very realistic)

Game Description:
The game is about war, but the mod replace the original game by a mmorpg survival.
You appear anywhere in the map and have to survive in founding supplies (eat and drink) and killing zombies.
You can reaper cars, planes, and others..
The mod is the most realistic zombie game ever about survival, the best player have survive only 4 hours since the beginning of the game !!!
And this mod have growing up the sold of this game of 500% ! Amazing.

Here you can find the mod (but you need the game and his expansion : ArmA II Arrowhead to work it ) :

http://www.dayzmod.com/about.php

Good luck my friends and thank you so much if you take the time to do it.

i've seen this zombie mod, it looks fantastic on multiplayer :P +1 on this being ported. I may try to port it myself but ArmA II needs to work well in wine first ;)

For the main game to work you will need to have the actual game with a disk for this to work as the FADE protection of the game kicks in and makes it unplayable if a crack is detected. Another option could be running the steam version in wineskin with steam running, but if the game runs the mod should run as well. Might be a bit more challenging than the demo due to that FADE protection.

GameGuy, i'm ready to buy the disk or the steam version that's not a problem, but making a wrapper of the original game ArmA II it's quite hard, and the expansion arrowhead don't really help i suppose... The demo was wrapped?
And about the mod it could work in the same wrapper?
I really don't understand anything how wrappers are working ... It's gonna be a trial to do this one but if someone succeed it, developers are gonna be jealous xD

Ya don't buy the game yet as I'm not sure if it will work buy yes the mod will have to be in the same wrappers as the mod depends on the game to work. Problem is that I don't have the real game with the Arrowhead expansion and I find it quite expensive where I live as its around $90 for the game with all the expansions as I can only find it as a bundle. I guess you will have to wait till someone on this forum come forward that has the game that can help. The demo works as I patched a 1.5.1 engine last week and got it work finally work but can't quite fix the bugs in it which include mouse and fps drops along with texture errors. A person is this thread at the bottom seems to have gotten farther than me and is going to try to use a patch made by thanoulas. Sorry I can't be of more help but I think following this thread with porting the free version might spark something.

Ok no problem. I'm gonna try this demo version and if really nobody can do it i suppose that i'm gonna learn how making wrappers.
But i have exams so it's gonna take me few months.
I heard about the DayZ team are gonna made a stand-alone of their mod and maybe a solo version. That could help a lot because it would be free
and wouldn't need the game to work it.
Thanks for your help ;)

I was in this situation last week. Here's what I did:

# Create a wineskin wrapper using the latest engine found here. That'll make it all work, and the mouse should kinda work too.
# Get the Amazon DLC-free version (or some other DLC-free copy) or the Steam version.
# Update the game to 1.60.8... - important, or it probably won't work.
# Install it all, install DayZ as normal.
# If on Steam, right-click Op Arrowhead and select 'run Combined Arms'. If not, go to users->[yourname]->start menu and manually type the shortcut to Combined Arms (a .lnk file) into the Wineskin Windows EXE path.

I'm at the stage where the game is kinda playable, and I can actually join a DayZ server. It's just slow and jittery, but that could be because my computer isn't the best anyway, AND it's running through WINE :P

It'd be easier for me to explain, and you'll learn something. It's a simple thing to do :)
  • Download, install and run Wineskin Winery.app once. Then quit it.
  • Download this custom Wine engine that kinda works.
  • Put the tar.7z file that you've downloaded in /Users/<<yourusername>>/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/engines
  • Open Wineskin Winery.app again.
  • Select the engine named W2.5.4-W1.5-RP-RF-WB-ATiFix-NoXi2 or something similar - unlike the others -, and click 'create new blank wrapper'
  • Your wrapper set itself up. Afterwards, click the 'View in finder' button in the popup that appears
  • Open the new wrapper application. It should be highlighted in Finder automatically, but can be found in /Users/<<yourusername>>/Applications/Wineskin/ aswell.
  • Click install software and get on with the installation as if you were running windows. Any problems with the installation past this point is not a Wine-related issue.
I hope that helps!

I recently gave in and installed bootcamp, and I have to say the difference is ridiculous. ArmA 2 runs perfectly, looks great and is ... well... playable :P Looks like WINE has a LONG way to go.

OK arma free is working and operation arrowhead demo too, (i have a great connexion but through the game my connexion is really bad, i have the icon of the yellow chain), i can't play without lagging a lot so it's not really playable. I suppose i need to upgrade but it still doesn't work.

Maskedturk helped me a lot to install it, but definately i installed bootcamp to play on DayZ.
With WIneskin the game is not playable, because they are few importants graphics issues. But if a someone have a good experience of wineskin, i think that it's really possible.

You guys should stop trying to port FPS games with wine .... wine has to much mouse lag.. Cyder ports for FPS.. wine is fine for RPG and mabye single player Stratagy.. not fps.. !

can some one try to port Day Z with Cyder.

@Dailfire: Not all games work in cider or wine thats why its a trial and error process but wine seems to be more compatible and easier to use cider takes a bit of tinkering and in the end might not even work. I have tried cider and I can't get the demo to work but I'm not very good with cider. I think the only way this games will work is if its a wine port. Cider doesn't always perform better.

if wine still has the mouse issues it had a year ago.. it will be compleatly useless for dayz... if you understand wine why not go tinker with a rpg or some thing more slower paced. and let some one who unerstands cider feel the need to come here.. if your running on a system that is already lagging mabye the diferences between wine and cider look closer to you.. but on a 30fpz+ system they are literaly as simple as working and not working. cider can achive some thing that you would not notice is "faulty" and feels 100% natural like using a mouse on a windows game... wine always ends up for me feeling like the mouse if flat out broken and fundimentaly unfixable.

Is there some thing im missing about getting wine to perform? is it my CPU? etc its only a 2core but my GPU was always top of the top end it runs the game emulation fine the mouse is all that lags. i see many people on this site mention the flaws of wines mouse and alot of people seem to shrug them off like its a closeted issue. am i missing some thing?

Wine is always evolving and things being added, fixed, dropped, etc and works different on all systems. My mbp mid 2009 seems to run wine games pretty good but takes a bit of tinkering to get ti running at optimal performance but really what can you do with a 9400m. Not all cider games for me run good like the bfbc2 cider port runs horrible on my mbp but in cxex bfbc2 ran great apart from a few bugs but got at least 40+ fps. It all depends on your system. I can wait to finish my hackintosh and see how things run on a 6950.

ok tonight im goin hard on trying to port the game i already ported the demos and they both worked and i cant buy the game :/ so if anyone is willing to give me his steam for me to try to port it and arrowhead and then try dayz that would be great
if i get passed Arma 2 and operation arrow head then the mod will be easy but we have to use wine it will be much easier than cider

This can be done with the most recent WineSkin engine WS9Wine1.5.13AMDSpeedHack, this engine fixes the mouse problem. I can get Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead running, but i can't seem to get Six Updater or DayZ Commander to be able to run to install DayZ properly. Currently, I manually installed DayZ (and the two other DayZ Maps) but only Lingor seems to work for me. However, I might have installed the mods wrong. Any news would be cool.

Working with wine... engines ≤ 1.3.35 work well for FPS but cannot detect mouse button clicks, When 1.5+ can detect mouse button clicks but on a stop watch I got 20 Frames per minute and all the textures dropped.
Maybe this can help someone out there?
