It is brought my attention on this matter, It will be great to have some achievement awards for the users who taken the time to come on here and post some ideas, options, opinions or just to greet one another to make new friends. Also to show our appreciation for their effert. It will be good for future of new users.

As for the users already that have been here for ages (not calling old farts here) Also I know most of the people been here so that might or might not be a problem for them to have achievements already if it would be acceptable.

Here are some of the ideas for achievement awards

1.) Achievement First Posting
2.) Achievement 10+ Posting
3.) Achievement First Porting
4.) Achievement 10+ Porting
5.) Achievement Creating an/a account
6.) Achievement (Best Porter)250+ post
7.) Achievement (Bestest porter)500+ Ports
8.) Achievement (Best Poster) 250+ post
9.)Achievement (Bestest Poster) 500+ Post
10.) Achievement (Noob, Advance, Expert,Pro,Elite)Member Or what ever is on here
11.)Achievement (Best TopShooter)

I have more but these will do for now, Also if anyone want to vote on it press the number keys

1 for yes
2 for no

Lets here everyone thoughts and options.

Please note: No other topics in this post beside the achievements.

Ok but that doesn't give full details on the achievement. Here a picture of an achievement that I have from another site that gives me full details on what the achievement is about and points.

Now we can have something of our own achievements system that come with details of what the achievement is about and how many points do we get. but also don't want no copyright issues in here.

Edit: Something that will pop up and say Superise You got an achievement.

There will clearly not be enough space for achievements in the side bar.
Also, I think this could even more increase the problem with spam.
It will also take focus away from porting and mac related topics and turn this into a more competitive social forum.
(Not that it's bad it's a social forum).

This will also require much work for the admins, and I'm not sure if our system can even handle it.

People can still see how many ports someone have, and how many posts.

Which side bar you referring to the port DB, Forum, SB or the User PF. There wont be taking to much space if you know what you are doing for example small Icon click on it gives you details on how many points and achievements you have. Be creative not distoryer. I can post some images up and show what I mean its not a problem. and been over worked for admins who said that admins would take all the fun :D I am a graphic artist you know I can create what ever comes to mind small or big images one of my specialties.

Edit: Read the first post at the end where it say voting, Vote on it.

Well, I have the same fear like cluthz.
If we have trophy there will be for sure some guys who cheat/spam to get those achivements.
I don't want to make such an achivement system  bad. It could be fun. I also enjoy the trophys on the PS3. But to implement this on portingteam will need much work and time.

Ok you got good points here, and I know some people would mess it up for the rest of people enjoyments.
And cluthz got some good points there too but lets say few users come in and try to mess it up for the rest by spamming and cheating, There a remove button or Kick button.

Edit: And for the people who are cheaters or spammers will be posted as a cheater and spammer. and will be blasted
So watch out.

No thanks of achievements, Since people are scared of spammers and cheats now what the point of having achievement system for. One person (Not going to give names) told me where are here to do one thing and one thing only, and that is to port. Now when that person told me that i couldn't help notice of the other things around.

To keep it simple and clear it was a waste of time and effert to give out options opinions and comments about achievements or even thought about posting something like this.

Further more Someone told me

Quote

that you are fighting for nothing
Well you are wrong there. I am not afraid of spammers, cheaters and hackers nor will I ever will be. like some do. If anyone want to add a second opinion please feel free we all humans here. not like we don't have a pulse and break off of nos or something.

Further Further more: You guys can have fun with this post I am done since everyone want to think the neg side and not the pos side.

Please don't do it! Achievements instantly attract attention whores who will do anything to increase the size of their e-lollypop. I used to be active on another forum once and they introduced achievements which resulted in really stupid content tht was borderline spam just to get these meaningless shiny badges.

Even in games I turn that good off whenever I can. I don't need stupid shiny stickers to keep playing the game; the game is either fun or it isn't. Then again I'm the kind of gamer who feels that beating the game should be the real achievement and no one should have the right to see the ending just because they keep burning enough time. Achievements are also responsible for the disappearance of cheat codes (remember those?). Worst idea. Ever!
Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

I don't argue with no one I have no attention to or have the time in other words its hot as heck where I am at so no point of having a heat stroke while around over something pitty.

That why I said I am no longer with this post anymore and that everyone can still do what ever with it. and I dont expect to change no one mind. not even my own that If I knew how too.

Voted yes.

And i do not think that this system attracts/causes spammers.

The achievements for posts are a bad idea, yes, that's why we have the ranks for.
What this system really needs, are useable achievements, like you get an achievement for:
- for x number of wrapper ports
- for x number of backup ports
- for x number of retro ports
- for x number of application ports
- for x number of 'likes' gotten
- for x number of articles written
- for x number of warnings gotten
- for x number of days you are a member
etc...

each member would get a little 'trophy room' in his member page (not on the forum topic view sidebar), where it displays little icons that are the trophies.

i would be for this system, but i don't have the means to code it, or the time.
Also the way to check for the different 'x number of' like i mentioned above would be hard, since the things to check are in all kinds of modules and SQL fields.
The only one who can code that would be syao, and he said via PM that he can look at it if he has a good chunk of free time available in the future.

That would be great in the future, for right now I have a headache. and heatstroke.

I am sorry you guys for thinking I am here to argue with you or to change your minds that  not my attention. My attention was it would be good for a near future to have something to think about beside answer and realize that answering something so sue could do something wonderful in the future to have alittle fun to show people what you have done to others to help them show them that it came be done.

In all our lives we answer every question fast before reading it and understand what it really means, It could be good  for our present or our future, You have to take the time to sit and think about what would really happen if this would of happen. Think about it.

Now you guys can correct me if I am wrong or don't understand anything feel free to say so.

and as for Dev. wether you clicked on no or I don't care, I appy you for the work and effert of bring this together. You and syao and doc I really truly respect.

Here a question for everyone----- Count how many achievements you have for porting, posting, and how long you've been here and tell me. (Sorry Dev I had to ask)---If you said none but posting then your correct. Alittle trophy room won't hurt to have to see what you have accomplished and people looked at you.

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm dreading, it would flood the port database with useless ports. I have ports for Snake Arena SE and Swing, I even made nice icons for both of them, but I didn't upload either because there are like five people in the world who even know about those games. If people start porting everything they come across, you won't be able to find anything in the port database unless they are explicitly searching for a certain title.

I could argue about this... It's true that some ports are more useful than others, but if a port is well made, I see no reason not to post it (other than lack of will to upload and/or maintain it(.  Even if there are five people who even know about it, they might be interested in it, and others might find it and use it later.
If things aren't easy to find, the problem does not lie in the amount of stuff that's been posted (there are sites with databases way bigger than ours, yet easy to search through), but rather in something else the system may be lacking.
Our goal here is to have a large Port Database with good ways to find stuff in it, not a small Port Database-because-if-there-were-more-ports-in-it,-it'd-be-a-mess...

I think it's a good idea, and people really get off on Achievements and social stuff.

This way I'd definitely say yes! Can you change votes in poll? I'm an idiot :P Fixed!

You know I am glad I am not part of this project... because if I was, everyone would hang me up and throw some darts at me for even thinking of this project. :D
