Hi, I bought a couple cheap pc games on steam during the summer sale to try out using wine and I haven't had any luck so far.  I was able to get Steam to run and install the games using wineskin but they don't work right.  I checked the port database and they all work on Nvidia cards, but are untested on Intel HD3000.  Does anyone have some tips on getting things to run without nvidia?

The Longest Journey - Runs fine, but all the character models are missing.

The Last Remnant - Displays the intro image and then loads a white screen and does nothing.  I read that that was a good sign, but I haven't been able to get it to do anything else.  I tried looking at the error log, but it was short and I wasn't sure what to look for.

Anybody had any luck with either of these games on a macbook air?

Thanks!

My Mac OS X Version:
10.7.4

My Mac Model, GPU & CPU:
Macbook Air 2011, 1.8, Intel HD3000

The Longest Journey characters bug is not really fixable. People still using lastet wine version. They rated bronze. http://appdb.winehq....ersion&iId=8015

The Last Remnant is very easy port because people never got problems on Wine. They rated gold. http://appdb.winehq....rsion&iId=16230

Launching it without emulated desktop causes a bug where the game launches as minimized after splash screen, but steals mouse/keyboard focus, rendering you unable to play (since you can't see) or quit (since you can't interact with what you can see). If you emulate virtual desktop, you can alt-tab freely, thus circumventing the problem.

Oh, this works with a clean prefix - none of the howtos below are relevant any longer.
I hope it's helpful.

I'm not sure if using Cider for The Longest Journey will change anything-- thedoctor45 used it and it has no problems for me (I'm on nVidia, though I did take note that you're on Intel HD)

Hmmm, thanks for the input!  I'll hold off on The Longest Journey since nobody seems to be able to make it work right.

I tried following the instructions on the last remnant page, by editing the registry

* 1) Type regedit in terminal
* 2) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D (if Direct3D does not exist create it)
* 3) Add following String values
o Multisampling = Enabled
o OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo (does not work with others atm)
o RenderTargetLockMode = readtex (or textex, readtex is recommended)

o UseGLSL = enabled

I installed the dotnet20 and vcrun2005 using wine tricks
Set VideoMemorySize to 256

The only thing I didn't get was the "install openAL 1.10 or later or edit your ~/.alsoftrc" part because I couldn't find it.  I tried removing the OpenAL.dll and wrap_oal.dll because I read somewhere that would stop openAL from running.

When I ran it I got the same white window after the splash screen.  My system fan starts up like it's doing something graphic or processor intensive but just that same white window, no sound or anything.

I don't have the Decorate window box checked either.

If anyone has an ideas please let me know! :)

small update- If I run it in an emulated desktop I don't get a white screen, I get a screen with the residual image of the desktop.  I can't use the Command-` to shift between active windows either.  Same basic effect as the white screen, fan starts and nothing happens.

Uh - The Last Remnant is not an easy port - I have a work in progress wrapper - but the voices do not work.  Last Remnant works fine for Linux but not Macintosh.

Here is my port - http://portingteam.c...e-last-remnant/

No that does not work - already tried that thanks though.

The sound and music work but not the voices. The voices work at first but stop working after a point in the game about 10 minutes in when the canon is fired.

It is likely a specific sound channeling through ELSA or another we do not have.

If you do not mind reading the text like old school rpgs and do not mind missing the voices it is still playable from start to finish.
