I thought I post this for fun since many of us use windows as a primary gaming os .

The first thing you will notice with win 8 is that there is a lack of a start button . Yes the start button that society has grown to love / hate (depending on your views ) is gone . In the earlier versions of win 8 reg edits allowed you to recover the start button . But in the final version such option does not exist . Luckily  alternatives exist to bringing back that classic Start Menu

Alternatives :
Start 8  : http://www.stardock....roducts/start8/
Classic Shell : http://classicshell.sourceforge.net
Vi Start : http://www.lee-soft.com/vistart/

If you used anyone of the above options you now have a Faster version of win 7 with some un-neccesary Modern ui s*hit . :P   ( oh if you get start 8 you can disable the modern Ui or i prefer to call it metro ui ) :D
Hope this has helped make your Win 8 experience less frustrating .

Idk really I really didn't watch anything on it. I downloaded the last beta but never used it. Only thing I saw on it was linus unboxing a samsung all in one and he did a few things on it. Only way windows 8 will make it to my pc is if it comes on an ssd.

Does windows 8 even have all the functionalities of windows 7, can it actually run games and apps normally? Or did they f*ck up like Apple did with Lion?
Yep microsoft messed up with win8 (They messed up more then apple did with lion ) the new modern ui is horrible and the lack of a start button makes the operating system less user friendly by over complicating the system with various menus and boxes to replace the start button  .
But win 8 does uses less resources then win 7 therefore is much faster then win 7 . I just pirated my copy and enabled the start menu / disabled the modern ui just cause win 8 is apparently faster then win 7 .

Main reason I'm not updating to win 8 is because really there is no reason to actually update...what really does it give me over win 7. I think win 7 is fast...well really with a good rig you shouldn't see a slow os anyway.

I don't care about darn start menu button. Win 7 and 8 UI is bored BOTH for me. I uses theme shell and blackbox menu/taskbar. They are better than original UI. Like a nerd. It's my opinion.

Posted Image
Don't ask me about fully shell theme on system. It's dangerous too for me.

Note, Win 8 can boost AMD CPU faster. My friend tried it. He said he is happy all times. Nah, I don't like AMD CPU. Lol

The Windows 8 interface is just awful. PCs and tablets are not the same, so slapping both together yields a product that doesn't satisfy anyone. It's like thoe desktop PCs that have tuchscreens in them, that may look cool at first but from a usability standpoint it's horrible. At least when Apple brought iOS interface elements they just picked what made sense, like fullscreen apps and Launchpad. They didn't replace all windows with fullscreen apps and made that the default.
Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

Your first problem was installing vista over xp...then everything after that is irrelevant.

Let me say this again...you installed vista over xp. Vista was a supposed to be a building block and a step forward for windows up failed. Windows 8 is a slimmed down version of windows 7 with a bad ui. Anything else?

I don't see how I was rude I just explained that windows vista was a building block for windows in the future. Your reason for some apps not opening in vista was because vista brought more things to the table that xp didn't have.

I actually totally agree with your list, except u forgot NT4, which was pretty decent too.
Also WinXP was useless until like 2005 and you needed pro version.

The similarities between 98, Me, vista and possibly 8 is that the target was home and not business.
Big companies had already decided if they wanted to use the OS before it was released, and many large scale companies are just now going win 7, because of lack of support for some hardware.
We still have several machines that will continue to run win xp, because we have hardware that doesn't work with win7 yet.

People want reliability, and and OS has to be out for at least 1 year before it's even considered, then often a year with testing and then you want at least 4 years of runtime before changing again. My guess is that next OS change at my work place will be in 2016.
(There are 11500 employees and a yearly budget of $1.5bn).

My guess, win8 will be remembered the same way as ME and Vista, OSes inbeween that was made just to get a few pennies from stupid people with no computer knowledge that got ripped of by their local dealer, "because you need the best and brand new os.."

I'm not gonna use win8, same way i never used vista. Even if I got win8 for free I wouldn't use it :P
