Using pre-made Game Wrappers

This Tutorial will give you a quick overview how to use Wrappers from the Port Database

How Do I Get Started Using Wrappers?

If this would be your first visit to the Porting Team and it's Forums, you'll most likely wonder how the applications called "Wrappers" work.
These pre-made software bundles are meant for playing normal PC games on your Mac, without the need of rebooting into Windows.
A wrapper is basically a small Windows "Emulator" that "wraps" itself around an existing installation of any windows based game or app, which then allows you to execute it directly on your Mac similar to a native OSX application.
All wrappers found here are only a few Megabytes big and do not contain the original game or application files, so they don't work by themselves.

This means, that if you download a wrapper from a link found on this site, there are still a few steps you need to follow in order to make it work for you.

Simplified Instructions:
Step 1:
- Get the according game/app and install it
There are a lot of options to do this, you can install Windows Games or Application via:
- a real Windows PC or Bootcamp
- a virtualization solution like VMware, Parallels Desktop or Virtual Box
- Codeweaver's Crossover
or the internal Installer of the Wrapper application. (more on that below)

Step 2:
- if a Game or Application doesn't work without the Installation CD/DVD, you will have to apply a no-cd crack that can be found on websites like gamecopyworld.com

Step 3:
then simply copy the Folder which contains the Game or Application files into the Wrapper. (more on that below)

Currently there are 3 types of Wrappers:

CXZ/CXEx

Wineskin

and Cider
/CiderX

Making a complete Port from a CXZ/CXEx Wrapper:
- Game installation via built in Installer:
right click the Wrapper and select 'Show Package Contents', open the Contents folder and then the 'CXInstaller.app'. Then navigate to your setup.exe on the Windows game/appInstall Disk.
Proceed with the installation. Apply a no-cd patch after the Installation to Contents/root/drive_c/Program Files/Gamefolder

- Game installation via drag & drop:
apply a no-cd patch to an already installed version of your game/app, then copy the game folder to:
right click the Wrapper and select 'Show Package Contents', then navigate to
-> /Contents/root/drive_c/Program Files/

you need to check if the path to the game folder and it's .exe is set right in the info.plist file in /Contents

Making a complete Port from a Wineskin Wrapper:
- Game installation via built in Installer:
right click the Wrapper and select 'Show Package Contents' and open 'WineskinSettings.app'. Select 'Install Windows Software' and navigate to your setup.exe on the Windows game/appInstall Disk.
Proceed with the installation. Select the main .exe file after the installation completes. Apply a no-cd patch after the Installation to
-> /drive_c/Program Files/Gamefolder

- Game installation via drag & drop:
apply a no-cd patch to an already installed version of your game/app, then copy the game folder to:
right click the Wrapper and select 'Show Package Contents', then navigate to
-> /drive_c/Program Files/
After that select the 'WineskinSettings.app' inside the Wrapper and navigate to 'Advanced -> Wineskin Configuration -> choose Windows .exe -> save & exit

Making a complete Port from a Cider Wrapper:
- no built in Installer, proceed with the drag & drop installation

- Game installation via drag & drop:
apply a no-cd patch to an already installed version of your game/app, then copy the game folder to:
right click the Wrapper and select 'Show Package Contents', then navigate to
-> /Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/

you need to check if the path to the game folder and it's .exe is set right in the info.plist file in /Contents

Since there is no built-in Installer for Cider, you might want to check out our standalone Installer for installing Games.
