The OSX Benchmark thread Part 2 - a wine based benchmark

19 May 2013 - 05:18 PM

For the first part go here:
http://portingteam.c...thread-updated/

I've decided to keep this in a separate thread just because having several different tests running in the same thread will be a bit messy.

The second part of this test is a test ran in wine.

The test is Street Fighter 4 benchmark test. This is a DX9 game from late 2009.
I've built a wrapper, containing this benchmark. The wrapper is built on latest stable wine, 1.4.1 and runs in a 1280x800 resolution virtual desktop. The benchmark is already configured to run with the settings I have decided upon.

This test should hopefully work on any Mac with 10.6.8 or newer!

The test will play thru four simulated fights and then some different graphics on the end.
If you have a fast machine, the test will take around 5 minutes, if you have a slow one, it could take up to 15 minutes. (You can however stop the test at any point with pressing esc)

The total download is 380mb, and it's in two parts around 200mb each.

Just place them in the same folder and open the first file (.001 on the end)

Results:
GraphicsScoreAvg FPS
AMD 6970M 1024MB562537.84 FPS
NVidia GTX660 2048MB543234.49 FPS
NVidia GTX650 2048MB515029.58 FPS
NVidia GTX670 2048MB511028.89 FPS
Intel HD3000 384MB39799.24 FPS

Whoa, this is giving some really weird results! I have to test a few other benchmarks in wine to see how that goes.
It could be the benchmark itself, but I doubt that..

The OSX Benchmark thread [updated!]

02 May 2013 - 04:01 PM

EDIT: AMD seems to have a bug with AA.
So AMD users, run the benchmark without!
(Just set basic first, then change to custom and set AA to off)
I will try to adjust the values based on how similar NVidia scores wit those settings.

Why?
If you look around the web there are tons of benchmark lists available for windows, but as far as I know there are no reliable lists for mac around.
Even though the performance should be somewhat comparable between the same cards in Windows and Mac OSX, it's not always like that.
The Porting Team has a large user base, with everyone gaming focused, thus making this the perfect site to do something like this.
Hopefully this can be a list that could give people a clue how different cards compare to each other.

How?
There are not that many recent benchmarks that is actually worthwhile running. However there are some, like Unigine Heaven and Unigine Valley, and a few others.
We will start with Unigine Heaven, and if this is popular, I will add additional benchmarks to run, all with complete instructions.

-------------------------

The first test:
Unigine Heaven 4.0 will be the first test. This is a free cross platform benchmark which is regarded as perhaps the best free game benchmarks. It also support technologies like OpenGL 4.0 and DX11(on windows only).
Spoiler

Second test:
Unigine Valley 1.0

How to submit?
Check the next post, it will contain some unbeatable stats from my 2011 MacBook Air!

Latest Sims 3 wrapper from Origin.
Version 8361, did a quick test with Morrowind, and the game starts just fine.
Haven't tested other stuff.
I did add a few older dlls in the sys32 for Morrowind, and forgot to take them out, should not matter tho.
