Left 4 Dead 2 (abbreviated as L4D2) is a cooperative first-person shooter video game. It is the sequel to Valve Corporation's award-winning Left 4 Dead. The game launched on November 17, 2009, for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in the United States and November 20 in Europe; in 2010, Left 4 Dead 2 was made available to the Steam client for Mac OS X.[7] It has been ported to Linux but, as of May 2012, has not been released. It builds upon the cooperatively-focused gameplay of the original and uses Valve's proprietary Source engine, the same game engine used in Left 4 Dead. The game made its world premiere at E3 2009 with a trailer during the Microsoft press event.

Personal Notes:
I ported this to play with a windows 3rd party LAN game launcher. Obviosly the native steam version is awesome, but you can use this as a LAN server. If the FPS doesn't bother you there are no graphical glitches, but when theer are lots a zombies more processing power is needed and the sound will lag. But thats not a graphical related problem, its that L4D2 needs lots of RAM and Ghz to process the zombies moving around so maybe this will work almost natively on a Mac Pro?

My System Specs:
- OS: 10.7 (actually a OSX86)
- CPU: Dual Core Pentuim 3.0 Ghz
- RAM: 2 GB
- Video: Nvidia 8400GS
- Disk Space: 13.71 GB

Known Issues:
Sound loops and lags when many zombies approach.
Installation:
install to C:/ and play! (i already added the exe flags)

Btw, you need add information like 'why did you ported it' on personal notes.
why i ported it?... Dindt i already tell you? to play on Lan. well ok.
Not me. Add it on your personal notes.
when i opened out of curiosity the files where my steam mac L4D2 files are i found a l4d2.exe
i wonder if hl2_osx is a compatibility layer like wine or if that the .exe was just there as some game content and some mac process exacts certain information like the game menu?

Uh, no. It's unix app like Linux. It uses opengl compatibility layer. Valve never uses Wine. You can check valve developer wiki. It's very helpful. Btw, Mac and Windows version both using same GameMenu.res (game menu file.)
but wine or not is it a Windows compatibilty layer developed by them? is that exe only there for resources but it not being executed or is it being executed?
Uh, no, it's not Wine. Just Windows compatibility layer. That's why Valve did rewrote and build new unix executable file and native-mac dynamic library.

Game data and resources are not rebuild and rewrote. they are still same. Native unix executable can load them.
I have no sound in Mountain Lion :(
thats strange it works fine. do you have xquartz installed?
isnt l4d2 already available for mac through steam?

I upgraded the wrapper and now sounds works but I have problems with the fullscreen (menubar and dock are always on top). Can you help me?
Thats strange i wish i could help but nobody else has reported that issue and although its says this has been downloaded 60 times, it had already been download 200 times before. i just reposted it since one of the admins deleted it for a reference to a pirated version of l4D2 i it tried with. I own l4D2 so im just using the mac version now but ive used it plenty if times and did not have those problems.
How do i install this i am still new to this what do i do?
Do you bought it from Steam? It will download and install L4D2 on Wineskin. And use windows 3rd party LAN game launcher. It's simple.
(I will not help you because I don't supprt piracy. If you downloaded torrent or others.)

Btw, If you want to official mac version... than download it from Steam.
