Download Wrapper Rise of the Triad [UPDATED 2014]

* * * * - 5 Votes Please vote for the Quality of this Port / Wrapper, not for the Game or Application!

Screenshots

Please check that your macbook passes the minimum PC requirements for running this game before downloading!

PLEASE Read the known issues. If you are considering buying this game on steam only to use with this wrapper, please consider the fact that the game is poorly optimized even on Windows, I suggest for best performance that you should still play on a windows operating system.

If this port works well, please leave a rating!

  • Chrome or Firefox must be used to correctly download from Mega.co.nz!
  • Use 7zX to extract the .dmg file. Open the DMG and drag the wrapper to your desktop.
  • If you are new to porting/using wrappers, please visit this page: http://portingteam.c...-downloaded-it/
  • IF YOU ARE AN AMD USER THAT USES OSX Lion 10.7.5: You will probably (most likely) experience severe lag. Please try and upgrade to 10.8.3 since wine does not function well with AMD GPUs and 10.7.5..
Rise of the Triad is a first-person shooter (FPS) that Interceptor Entertainment is developing for Apogee Software, released for Steam and GOG.com on 31 July 2013. During a demonstration at QuakeCon 2012, the developers indicated that the game is a revival of the earlier Rise of the Triad, which 3D Realms published as Apogee Software Ltd. in 1995. The Plot is identical to that of ROTT: Dark War; A team of special operatives, known as the H.U.N.T. (High-risk United Nations Task-force) is sent to San Nicolas Island to investigate deadly cult activity taking place in an ancient monastery. Their boat, the only way back, is destroyed by patrols, and the team soon learns that the cult plans to systematically destroy nearby Los Angeles. The operatives, now unable to return whence they came, are then left to fight their way into the monastery on the island, and eventually put a stop to the cult's activities.

Personal Notes:

- Game runs... but at low performance in most areas.

My System Specs:

- OS: OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
- CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k @ 4.2GHz
- RAM: 16GB 1600MHz
- Video: 2GB MSI GTX 670 OC Edition
- SSD: Samsung 840 120GB

Known Issues:

(FIXED) - IMPORTANT: Game has low performance as strictdrawordering is enabled... resulting in low FPS in quite a lot of areas.

I strongly recommend if you want to play this game without lag, install bootcamp or parallels.

- When loading a map, the loading screen and music may freeze for around 10-20 seconds. Wait and it will resolve itself.

Installation:

  • Right click the wrapper, show package contents and Steam Setup
  • Let steam install.
  • Once its installed, go into wineskin.app within the wrapper, next to the steam setup launcher, and click on advanced.
  • Change the 'Windows EXE' line to: /Program Files/Steam/steam.exe and then exit wineskin.app.
  • Finally, run the wrapper, steam will launch, sign in to your steam account and download Rise of the Triad. Once its downloaded, click play!

Now, whenever you launch the wrapper, it will sign into steam and allow you to launch your game via your 'Steam Game Library'.

For 'non steam users':
Please note that I do not (in any way) promote piracy and that I highly recommend you PURCHASE the games that you want to play!

  • Right click the wrapper, show package contents and launch wineskin.app, then select install new software.
  • Locate the setup.exe file (that is within the .ISO you probably downloaded, if you download a .ISO file, double click it to mount it!) and install the PC files by going through the setup.
  • -- Don't bother installing directx and vcrun if it asks you too. --
  • Then, go back into the contents of the wrapper, go to: drive_c ----> Program Files ----> Rise of the Triads (make sure your Rise of the Triad folder is named EXACTLY this) then drag/paste in the appropriate NoCD crack that works with the version of the game you have downloaded.

The last step is to launch the wrapper!

Please post some feedback on how this runs on your graphics card! Information on all cards would be great!

Cheers,

- Dan.

The problems you mentioned might not be the wrapper itself, the game has been reported for being extremely poorly optimized. The game does not look that good for you card to run into any problems.
John Bain addressed that issue in his video. The game has poor performance on his 2 SLI Titans. Not a problem with the wrapper.

I'm getting on average 2-5fps in (most areas) of the game, this is caused by strictdrawordering being enabled.  I encountered the same issues with some other games like Sanctum 2 in wine. However, the combination of strictdrawordering AND the game being poorly optimized is probably what is causing such bad performance.
games run poorly on my AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB but the devloper says if they make enough money they will do a native mac port

Sanctum 2. Rise of the Triad. They are using same Unreal Engine 3. I am not sure Cluthz is good with Unreal Engine 3 on cider ports.
Hi. I used thanoulas "Dishonored-1.1.1514 ATIFix" wrapper and there is no lag at all. But the game Sucks ;)

All i did with the thanoulas "Dishonored-1.1.1514 ATIFix" wrapper to get it to work was.
1. set screen to "Automatic"
2.Run Winetricks "d3dx11_43 And xact_jun2010
And of course changed the path to /Program Files/Rise of the Triad/Binaries/Win32/ROTT.exe
I feel a bit rude promoting  another wrapper here, but i just wanna help. DanIsTheMan rules :D

It would appear UE3 Engine games don't want to work in the NEW wine engines with strictdrawordering being enabled... which sucks because without it being enabled, the performance would undoubtably be much much better. However, as i state at the very top of the page, performance is currently really low... which is more of a wine related issue than the wrapper itself. I believe the dishonored engine is an older X11 engine though, which has lower performance than new Mac Driver engines... but the FPS issue in this port is necessary enough to go back to using the X11 engines i guess.

If thanoulas is ok with it, I can add a link to a wrapper using his 1.1.1514 ATIFix engine to this port page... so at least people have a choice. However, it seems that from what i've heard from J0ggernaut above, the FPS are still kind of low.
Using a top of the line late 2012 iMac with BTO nvidia GTX680MX 2GB VRAM It ran even worse in parallels for me.. like minutes per frame. I used your previously released dishonored wrapper with d3dx11 dll and xact_june installed and I was actually able to do a complete playthrough but there are areas where it's very sluggish. Other areas are just fine even at top settings and resolution. It seems that it's easy for this game to run in a mode where it falls back onto software.

Also, I've seen reports of people having performance issues even in native windows with beefy hardware so this game suffers from optimisation issues in general. I know it's easy to blame Wine but it's not the only thing having troubles with this game. http://www.dsogaming...mance-analysis/

Since I've already completed it once I almost feel like just waiting to see if they release a mac native version (the devs are mac users actually)... perhaps by that time they may also fixed the numerous bugs, glitches (clipping problems with their models for example) and performance problems as well.... at the very least it'd be interesting to see what kind of a difference it would make.

BTW I made this icon for the game: https://dl.dropboxus...ROTT (2013).png

There's going to be small patches within the next few weeks but it's going to take 4-5 weeks to produce a performance optimisation patch I heard.

Yes, Ive just uploaded a new wrapper with much better performance. Its still partially laggy as the game itself is poorly optimized, even on PC.
