About Star Wars X-Wing Alliance
XWA on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia...X-Wing_Alliance
XWA on Wikia: http://starwars.wiki...X-Wing_Alliance
XWA on GOG: http://www.gog.com/g..._xwing_alliance

Personal Notes:
The wrapper is configured to install and run the official GOG version of XWA. Please follow the instructions below to install and run the GOG version of Star Wars X-Wing Alliance on this wrapper under OS X. In addition you need to run the XWA Hacker tool to apply some modifications and you need a compatible USB joystick or gamepad (please see details below).

My System Specs:
  • OS: OS X 10.11.1
  • CPU: Core i5 2.4GHz, Core i7 2.2GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Video: Intel Iris, Intel HD 3000, AMD Radeon HD 6750M
  • Disk Space: 1.25 GB (395 MB for wrapper only)
Known Issues:
  • Graphic issues occur on most modern systems. The XWA Hacker tool (pre-installed in this wrapper) allows to fix some of them: http://sourceforge.n...XWA Hacker Home
  • Some graphic overlay glitches remain during game play. Opening the options menu and closing it again makes them disappear. Alternatively this can be solved by turning off 3D Hardware in the Single Player Video Options menu. However the game only runs in 640x480 resolution without 3D hardware support.
XWA Installation:
  • Purchase and download the GOG version of Star Wars X-Wing Alliance from gog.com.
  • Download the Star Wars X-Wing Alliance wrapper from the download link on this page.
  • Unzip the downloaded Star Wars X-Wing Alliance.zip file.
  • Hold the ctrl key and make a mouse click on the unzipped Star Wars X-Wing Alliance wrapper icon.
  • Select Show Package Contents in the contextual menu.
  • Make a ctrl-click/right-click on the Wineskin icon and choose Open from the contextual menu (see https://support.apple.com/kb/PH14365 for details).
  • Perform the following steps In the Winskin window:
    • Click the Advanced button.
    • Click the Install Software button.
    • Click Choose Setup Executable.
    • Select the setup_sw_xwing_alliance_2.0.0.9.exe file you downloaded from gog.com.
    • Run the XWA installation.
    • Ignore the error messages at the end of the installation. Click the Launch button.
    • The X-Wing Alliance Launcher window opens. Click Exit to Windows to go back to Winskin or Play X-Wing Alliance to see if the installation was successful. Without a compatible joystick you will get an error message and the game quits.
    • Wineskin recommends to select Alliance.EXE to run the game. Klick OK for now.
    • Click the Browse button in the Configuration tab where it says Windows EXE.
    • Navigate to the folder /drive_c/xwahacker-gui-0.25-win/ and select the xwahacker-qt.exe file. Click Choose.
    • Click Test Run.
    • Within the XWA Hacker app you have to navigate to the folder /drive_c/GOG Games/Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance and select the XWINGALLIANCE.EXE file. Click Open.
    • Enable the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th option in the xwahacker-qt window. Click Save and exit.
    • Wineskin asks you if you want to view the log files. Click Cancel.
    • Click again the Browse button in the Configuration tab where it says Windows EXE.
    • Navigate to the folder /drive_c/GOG Games/Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance and select the Alliance.EXE or XWINGALLIANCE.EXE file. Click Choose.
    • Close all windows.
The game requires a joystick. Connect a compatible USB joystick or gamepad before launching the game.

Updating Wine
Wine gets continuously updated. In most cases performance and stability improve with new releases. You need the Wineskin Winery app to download the latest Wine engines for OS X.
  • Download Wineskin Winery here: http://wineskin.urge...?page=Downloads
  • Unzip the downloaded file and place the Wineskin Winery app to a location of your choice.
  • Open the Wineskin Winery app.
  • Click the + button where it says New engine(s) available!
  • Select the newest engine.
  • Click Download and Install, then click OK.
  • Quit the Wineskin Winery app.
  • Open the Wineskin app from within the game wrapper.
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click Change Engine Used on the lower right under Wrapper Tools.
  • Select the latest engine you installed before in the Wineskin Winery app.
  • Click OK.
  • A test run will be performed automatically. Just go through it or quit/abort it.
  • Quit the Wineskin app.

So ya, good work.

Unfortunately we can not have a leave tip option - or use things like adfly.
Tip option removed.
I should point out, you certainly don't need that controllers app. Wine's joystick support is properly integrated with OSX and worked fine for me with apple's built in drivers. Button configuration is in game.
@darklord42: Interesting. I'd need to test this again. What joystick/device do you use? In my case I had to open the Controllers app to activate the connected USB controller.

Did you test with this wrapper or any other game or wrapper?
My own wrapper,  my joystick is a Logitech Extreame 3D Pro.  Do you use the Controller app to connect for non wine games?  Because evrey game I have ever tried on OSX automatically connects just by having it plugged in the USB port.
Did you install a driver in your wrapper for your Logitech joystick? Or any winetricks or winecfg settings?
Thanks for the info, I will check this out when I am back on the test machine end of the week.
Np,  I'm kind of curious about this.  Why your controller needs extra software.  If I were to connect a wiimote over bluetooth, I'm pretty sure it would need extra software to be handled correctly as an HID device.
And you don't have USB Overdrive installed on OS X? http://www.usboverdrive.com
technically an older version yes, but it's not active. I've only ever used it for sheepshaver.  Believe me, OSX can handle HID input, it's part of the OS.
Looks you're right. It also works without the Controllers app. Hm, I though I tested this also. :-)
It's working but I have a bad picture. It seems like it's always refreshing too long. Someone had the same problem ?
ok, solved
I also have this flickering picture. How did you solve this?
