Deadly Premonition, known as Red Seeds Profile (レッドシーズプロファイル?) in Japan, is an open world, survival horror video game developed by Access Games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In 2010, the Xbox 360 version was published by Ignition Entertainment in North America, Marvelous Entertainment in Japan, and Rising Star Games in Europe, while the PlayStation 3 version was simultaneously released only in Japan by Marvelous Entertainment. A director's cut for the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows was published worldwide by Rising Star Games in 2013. Set in the fictional, rural American town of Greenvale, Washington, Deadly Premonition follows FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan as he investigates the murder of an eighteen-year-old woman, which is similar to a series of murders across the United States.
Deadly Premonition is a reboot of Access Game's earlier, multi-platform video game Rainy Woods. In production since 2004, Rainy Woods was cancelled soon after its debut at the 2007 convention Tokyo Game Show due to technological issues.
The game is notable for introducing open world, nonlinear gameplay and a comedy horror theme to the survival horror genre. It is also notable for implementing a free-roaming storyline within an open game world where all the characters have their own schedules.
It has become known for its "headline making strangeness" and is considered one of the most critically polarising games of all-time (holding the Guinness World Record for most critically polarizing survival horror game), receiving both extremely negative and extremely positive reviews[1][2] and is seen by some as an example of games as art.[3]

Personal Notes:
if you want to use a gamepad you need gamepad companion

My System Specs:

- OS:  Mac OS X 10.10.5
- CPU:  Core 2 Duo 2,53GHz
- RAM:  6 GB
- Video: nVidia 9800m GTS
- Disk Space: 9 GB

Known Issues:

Sometimes after the intro/prologue movies (not always), the game could crash if you don't press E or Enter  before the finish of the movie when the screen go black...

Other random crashes could happen during the story line... It's the same also for many Windows users... the game isn't been well optimized by developers...

Installation:

Steam Users:

Open/Mount the "Deadly's wrapper_v1.02NRG.dmg" you downloaded from this post

Open again the "tools tab" and open (winecfg) to change windows version from Windows 7 to Windows 98 (this step is necessary to have a better audio during the game)
IMPORTANT: Download the intro/prologue movies and put them inside the movie folder within the installation folder of the game inside your wrapper...

What's New in Version 1.02 (See full changelog)

  • Corrected movies issues, now intro's movie and cutscenes work (download the intro/prologue movies adapted for the wrapper by the download button of the thread...)

intro movie and others cutscenes cannot played? i think you can put this wrapper on WIP.
@blackrosez

The fact is this game has many issues also natively in many Windows Systems, so I'm not sure that the intro movie 's issue depend by the wrapper...

Try to read in steam's discussion forum all the issues this port from PS3 version to PC  give them

EDIT: I found this in this pcgamingwiki page:

Quote

Cutscenes don't play • Link

For some, cutscenes aren't shown. The player must press escape or enter to get past a black screen in order to get to the next section.

So It's an unsolved Windows problem for some Windows users that It happens also in my hardware through the wrapper...

It's clear that developers  has ported from PS3 version a very bad conversion for PC users...
Hi,

thanks for the port,

I've played the prologue and first two chapters without any game crash for now ( i use GOG version with the last patch and the last unofficial dpfix patch ) which is surprising good given the number of crashes reported on pc version, and the machine i use ( my macbook pro is dead and i use an old macbook end 2009 with osx... )

current conf.
macbook 13inch, end 2009
OS: OSX el Captain 10.11.3
CPU  : 2,26Ghz intel core 2 duo
RAM  :  8go
Video : NVIDIAGeForce 9400M 256Mo

First time i used your wrapper osx repported me that the app was broken, i've put one of my own wineskin app instead in your package and it worked nicely with your configuration, then i saw that your's was walking again, i use it now.

I didn't managed to launch the game in full screen ( from the launcher ) , it craches each times ( but it may be due to dpfix, i've seen this in some forums, and i haven't tried it before without the patch ), I've also read that playing windowed fix some game random crash ( on pc ).
So i've find a dirty workaround for this to play it on a fake fullscreen, i launch the windowed game on a wine fullscreen Windows desktop, and have put desktop background and all windows titlebars and décorations colors to black (using wine cfg), it looks like a 16:9 fullscreen game now.

Intro video don't play but others are working ( if i find the time i'll try to recode the vid has said on the excerpt of AppBd you pasted in the description )

The sound of ingame videos was also a bit choppy, and out of sync with subtitles, selecting win98 in the winetrick seems to solve this ( winXP too but i found the game a bit more laggy )

sometimes the screen stay black before a level loading if i press enter once or twice the loading screen appears ( maybe a screen or a video was trying to play, but i dont think so )

I play with french subtitles, there was a lot of typography errors, this guy on steam fixed it : https://steamcommuni...24953016742625/

Again thanks for this port, despite all of its imperfections this game deserves to be known
@regh
I created a new wrapper that start the intro movie and prologue cutscenes, but now in full screen the game crash...  in windows mode it starts most of the time... But  for now It's better to try to play without it in full screen...

PS: my wrapper isn't broken, it's your download that probably has corrupted it... To download from mega without issue it's better to change DNS with OpenDNS and use firefox
oh nice, i'll try this, does the download link points to this new wrapper ? what have you changed to make videos works ?

( for the broken wrapper i dunno what happened, it didn't work at first but works now, the wrapper wasn't brokken, the message was just when launching the wineskin app inside the package, wathever it was it works now )

the new wrapper at the moment it's only on my computer... I will upload it only if permits to play the game without crashes and not only to see the cutscenes... However the most problems with this game as happens on Windows systems are the video that are ported from ps3 coded
version
PS: the fix from third party released for Windows users doesn't works wih wine

EDIT: It seems I solved all the issues with the new wrapper v.1.02; now the game should run better also respect many  Windows users... I will upload the new wrapper as soon as I get time
The new wrapper, updated to v.1.02, is loaded... download it again if you have the old version...

Read carefully the new installation's istructions...
thanks NRG,

Videos plays well now, i haven't realized there were  "previously on.. " vids before the savegames loadings.
I didn't manage to launch it fullscreen from the loader ( the game keeps crashing at launch ), but as i said before it may be due "dpfix" patch, i still play in windowed mode with the fake fullscreen tricks i told before and didn't have any crash while playing yet.

It's very strange, on my hardware works also with fullscreen as default... perhaps your GPU is not good enough
Dpfix is activated only if you add "d3d9" library through winecfg, but it cause more crashes because it use more resources, and this game isn't well optimized...
I can attest that the port runs on OSX 10.10.5, Late 2014 Macbook pro retina, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB *IF* you replace the 2 movies as described. forgetting that step lets the game "hang" in the front screen on my machine.
THX to NRG!!!

thank's to you for feedback ;)
Having issues with this unfortunately. Config Utility (winecfg) would not open for some reason but has since opened and I believe I followed the instructions correctly. I can't find where to place the two movie files however. Can somebody help me with this?
EDIT: I found the folder and replaced the downloaded movie files with the old ones. Still crashes after title screen though?
