Okay so I got it working! I had to install .NET and I think DX9 through Winetricks because I don't think it installed correctly when I did it outside of Winetricks.
The main menu and opening cutscene work flawlessly, but once the actual game loads, it's pretty laggy for me. I get maybe 20 FPS so I mean it is playable for me but not ideal. I was expecting this because I get low FPS in GTA IV so my graphics card is probably not a good indicator for what you might get. I'd say that the FPS is comparable to whatever you get for GTA IV.
One thing though, the game freezes and crashes within 30-45 seconds of actually playing (not in the cutscenes or menus). I am sure this is because my VRAM has been exceeded but I can't remember how to tell Wine how much VRAM you have. I tried the auto-detect feature in the screen settings which might have helped a little bit but it still crashed within a minute. I got this error in the Wine log:
err:d3d:resource_init Out of adapter memory
So that's where I'm at. I am getting a new Mac in about a month so I can try it on that, but would anyone else like to try in the meantime? You can follow the instructions from this link: http://www.futuresou...wordpress/?p=97 or I will upload a WIP port that you guys can use too.
Until DX11 is supported, your best chance for playing Fallout 4 on a Mac would be Bootcamp. Your Mac's hardware is more effective when running Windows and a high-end game like Fallout 4 is very taxing on your graphics card and processor. I skimmed this thread: https://www.reddit.c...ootcamp_thread/ and it looks like it was able to run pretty well on the MBP with the dedicated AMD 2 GB graphics card and at very low quality and FPS on the Intel integrated graphics. iMac users were successful with running Fallout 4 as well.
Yeah I saw that too... I was just wondering if there was anything beyond that but I guess not! It sounds like they have made DX11 support a priority which makes sense to me because without it their software will quickly become obsolete!
I updated Wineskin Winery and my wrappers to 2.6.1 and was following doh123's advice to reinstall the engines in my existing wrappers, but I don't have some of the custom engines installed in Winery. I know how to install custom engines but I can't seem to find the tar.7z file anywhere. This might be a stupid question, but is the engine file still included in the wrapper? And if so, can I extract it and use it to reinstall on the same wrapper or even on another wrapper? If not, where is the custom engine file located? Also, does anyone know if there is one place where custom Wine engines can be downloaded? As of now I only download from Winery and individual links people post to the forums.
