#23960 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within *Almost* Working

Ya, let me double check my wrappers and take a look into that. I just want to double check them once more.

Hmm.. I guess it's not!

Piratx posted the Crossover version on Brokenstones a while ago — I'll see if I can upload Warrior Within using CSX later this weekend.

Great news!

It's been a while, but I've finally got POPWW working properly now! I actually didn't do anything; I updated to the Black Diamond engine and now everything is perfect. =D

Just thought I'd share, in case it helps anyone.

#9781 CXZ Wrapper Question: How To Change?

Posted by krimb1 on 29 November 2009 - 06:56 PM in Ask for Help (Game Ports)

Wow! Thanks so much -- I can't wait to try this when I'm back home later this evening. :)

Everything you explained makes perfect sense, but I was j/w for my curiosity: what exactly does changing xyz.app in the MacOS folder do? In the Info.plist I can only see that the "Executable File" key is set to "CXX11Server" -- in other words, where is xyz.app called?

#9772 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within *Almost* Working

Posted by krimb1 on 29 November 2009 - 06:00 PM in Ask for Help (Game Ports)

Just an update:

As a test, I'm trying to port Ankh 1, using CXZ Black Diamond as well.

Similar problem: the intro cutscenes and opening song all show nicely, but once the actual game starts (i.e. when Assil's father grounds him in Chapter 1) I get nothing but a black screen..

(FWIW, the *same* black screen happens if I install Ankh 1 in Crossover Games 8 as well; I think it's not a wrapper issue. Have not tried installed POPWW in Crossover Games 8 though.)

I'm trying installing various codecs, etc. using winetricks at the moment, in the hope I'm just missing a runtime library or something. Any insights would be most appreciated! ;)

#9715 CXZ Wrapper Question: How To Change?

Posted by krimb1 on 29 November 2009 - 07:09 AM in Ask for Help (Game Ports)

devilhunter,

Thanks so much for posting the new CXZ wrappers yesterday!

At the moment I am working on porting a game using the Black Diamond wrapper. I would really like to test how the game runs under the other wrappers and am wondering: would I simply have to change the "CXZ Engine Requirement" value in the Info.plist to "map" my existing port to a different wrapper? Are there other values I should change as well?

If so, this would really save me the hassle of reinstalling the game many times...

Thanks a lot! :)

#9710 CrossOver (CX) Ports and Snow Leopard

instead of the applescript mentioned above you could also use the one i posted over at insanlymac:
set desktoppath to "/"
set spotlightquery to "\"kMDItemFSName == 'CX Pro Wrapper 8.0.app\""
set command to "mdfind -onlyin " & desktoppath & " " & spotlightquery
set founditems to paragraphs of (do shell script command)
set the input to the result as Unicode text
set the result to ""
set nextPart to ""
on urlToPOSIXPath(theURL)
return do shell script "python -c \"import urllib, urlparse, sys; print urllib.unquote(urlparse.urlparse(sys.argv[1])[2])\" " & quoted form of theURL
end urlToPOSIXPath
to searchReplace(thisText, searchTerm, replacement)
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to searchTerm
set thisText to thisText's text items
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to replacement
set thisText to "" & thisText
	set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {""}
	return thisText
end searchReplace
set the_url to input
set value to searchReplace(urlToPOSIXPath(the_url), "/Macintosh HD", "")
set new_value to searchReplace(value, " ", "\\ ")
set nextPart to the result
do shell script ("VERSIONER_PERL_PREFER_32_BIT=yes " & nextPart & "/Contents/MacOS/CrossOver\\ Chromium") as Unicode text

replacing the "CX Pro Wrapper 8.0.app" bit with the name of your wrapper.

This is better in my opinion because it lets you move the game into a different location without changing the applescript.

Thanks very much for the script!

One question though: does this require quartz-wm to be "thinned out" as well like thedoctor's workaround? I think it does, since it's just a launcher script, but I just wanted to double check. :)

#9707 CXZ Library Question: Internet Access

Posted by krimb1 on 29 November 2009 - 02:43 AM in Help Me I'm New

Great news: I successfully wrote an Applescript to check if the /etc/hosts file blocks Telltale's activation server, and if not, adds it to the end.

I'm thinking of incorporating this AppleScript to run on each launch of the program, so that the internet access is blocked automatically. The question is: would this be against some sort of suggested guidelines for making ports -- to have a script like that run in the background -- or would it be okay? I would think as long and I mentioned it in the readme it would be okay; Telltale doesn't make games for Mac anyway so legit users would have to port anyway...

It would be my first game port and I want to make sure I follow all the rules. :)

Thanks again!

#9605 CXZ Library Question: Internet Access

Posted by krimb1 on 28 November 2009 - 12:44 AM in Help Me I'm New

Blocking via /etc/hosts is a brilliant idea, demonhunter!

I guess I will have to use Little Snitch first to figure out the exact IP each game is using to contact Telltale. I like bash scripting and AppleScript so I think I'll be able to work something out! I'll post back with my findings.

Thanks again!

#9487 CXZ Library Question: Internet Access

Posted by krimb1 on 26 November 2009 - 11:35 PM in Help Me I'm New

Hello again!

Great news -- I've think I've successfully ported one of the Bone Telltale games!

I can't wait to share it, but I was thinking it might be nice to first disable internet access to Telltale now that the game is activated. Is there a library in CXWinetricks that I can remove/disable that would accomplish this?

Yay!  :Yahoo!:

#9486 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within *Almost* Working

Posted by krimb1 on 26 November 2009 - 11:25 PM in Ask for Help (Game Ports)

Hello all!

I've been trying the new Diamond and Black Diamond CXZ Wrappers today and I really like them a lot. The whole porting process is so much easier and quicker -- thanks to everyone that made this possible! :)

I have a quick question regarding Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. I have successfully installed and wrapped the game in the Black Diamond CXZ Wrapper. The game loads as it should and rifles through the intro screens. My heart was beating so fast I couldn't believe it! :D

However after the last "loading" video finishes, the screen just goes black where the "select name" screen should appear. I tried the regular Diamond CXZ Wrapper as well, but no luck. I cant help but think I'm missing some sort of startup parameter (DirectX maybe?), but don't know enough myself. Would anyone be able to help?

If anyone's interested, I have a private server at home where I can host my WIP; just PM me and I can send the link.

Many thanks! :)
