#37222 Mac OS 10.7 'Lion' - thoughts?

Posted by commanderbige on 21 October 2010 - 06:21 PM in General

the idea of an iOS OSX means that is will be coming closer to a closed system. and while i dont think i will ever go away from mac, it may mean people when they buy new macs downgrade to 10.6. just the fact that its becoming iOS means that even developers may more away from using macs.

currently "borrowing" AC2 from the internet. ill perhaps start a performance thread for this game, where people can post specs and how well it runs. good idea?

Do you have a place to "borrow" a working crack for the Mac version? without a crack your "borrowing" doesnt do much to run it.
what?!?!?!? i need a crack for it ?!?!?!?

i dont have one currently. however, the torrent is well seeded, so im sure someone will come up with one soon.

be very proud sir, you just made my day. do you think either of these games will be playable on my 2.53 ghz, 4gb ram, 512 video ram MBP? i know i cant play maxed out but atleast like medium with no AA?
i honestly dont know. but i would assume it could play it well enough with all settings turned down

your best bet is to wait for some impressions from people who have the same graphics card or setup as you first though, just in case ;)
or i suppose i could just "borrow" it from the internet until i get a feel for how well it plays.  :)

it is just so cheap to put a lot of ram in if you dont buy from apple, you might as well just load it up.

refurb sounds better than i thought (y)
i dont have much experience with hackintosh's but it depends on the hardware you get for it. of course the better hardware the... well, better lol.. but you have to aim for compatibility otherwise osx will fall apart.
insanelymac is a great hackintosh place to have a look at. we should probably keep this topic on topic ;) feel free to make a new topic about this though

the new iX processors automatically 'turbo' (overclock) themselves when its needed

thanks for the link, and i also have a link from lifehacker so ill have a good look through there as well, and i will make sure to do extensive research on all component compatibility. and thats a cool function for the iX processors, they also have the graphics card that switches on automatically as well i think.

and yes, i totally fail sometimes about staying on topic.

woah is that 125fps on bootcamp or osx? thats very damn good
as for going for the refurb, its up to you really. from what ive read Apple fixes up the mac if theres anything wrong with it and then puts it up for sale. so it sounds alright, but with a second hand mac theres always that chance of there being a problem with it.
the new macbook pros are fine gaming even on OSX, but on bootcamp i havent tried it but even the newest games seem pretty damn playable. mafia 2 is like 40fps on lowest settings, metro 2033 is 30fps on lowest, mw2 is about 50-60fps on lowest (something around that). i got these results off a site though, not from my testing.
its not as good as a gaming laptop so if you really want to play the games as good as possible then i would go with the hackintosh or just a normal windows laptop

the 125 is on OSX... and that makes me feel very good. i it actually stays at 125 except when there are more than about 3-4 enemies, gun fire, explosions, or some combination of that in the same view, then it goes down to about 90. im not even sure how my comp does it, settings are maxed, and its a late 2008 MBP with the 2.53 GHZ.

i like the refurb section. its where i got my first and current mac. i love it. i got a mac for 40% off. plus, when a comp is returned because of damage they not only replace the part but do thorough diagnostics on all other parts, something you dont get out of the factory in beijing, so i actually prefer to buy refurb. the only thing wrong with mine was the hard drive had a fatal error, but apple said it was the entire lot, not just mine, and my superdrive melted the crystal the laser goes through, also a common problem with some superdrives, or so i was told.

what kind of game performance can i expect from a hackintosh? i am googleing it as we speak but does anyone have any experience with it?

also, i didnt know you could turbo the new ix line of processors on OSX...

i have a brand new mac.. so im lucky there :P but i bet they're referring to playing it on the highest settings. its the same thing for source games anyway. only the newest macs can play with everything on high and still get around 60fps. it wont be as bad as it sounds, itll play mostly fine
lucky you, i still havent decided whether im going to buy a gaming laptop from Asus and try and hackintosh it, or whether i will just shell out the extra $600 dollars and get the MBP i want(15" i7 from refurb section), any thoughts? im not sure, i dont game alot, but not so little that a gaming comp would be a waste. but back on topic, im not sure if it means anything, but with my 9600M i get 125fps on CSS maxed everything, except AA, it was at 2x instead of 4x, it just looked better, im not sure if that is something to be proud of or not... i had always had a little bit of jumpy lag playing higher demand games like SC Conviction on bootcamp, but i attribute that to the fact its only a 5400rpm HD and the bootcamp partition is the slowest part of a drive, not to mention conviction has that thing where it loads the whole game so there are no loading wndows. so i figure if SC Conviction and AC2 are well ported, or even native(i know, i know, when hell freezes over), then i should have no problem running at native resolution on lowest settings with perhaps a little texture smoothing.

i saw this on inside mac gaming. it says that unless you have a brand new mac it isnt going to work very well at all, so it seems that ubisoft hasnt gotten their head completely out of their ass yet. but well see, hopefully they just over stated the requirements.

#29456 Battlefield 2

Posted by commanderbige on 04 August 2010 - 02:17 AM in Ask for Help (Game Ports)

so recently i download a full ported Battlefield 2 1.5 cider port.

http://portingteam.c...edirect.php?htt ... 918319750/

http://portingteam.c...edirect.php?htt ... nt/5292416

both the same port, but i put the piratebay link incase someone doesnt have demonoid.

my question is how can i get this to play online. i replaced the cache file with one from my legit bootcamp installed copy. i even changed the serial number to mine via vmware and used the serial changer program, but it still says invalid CD-key. any ideas?
