Thief: Deadly Shadows (also known as Thief III or Thief DS) is the third stealth video game in the Thief series, and is a relative departure from the first two games in the series (Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age), most notably due to its solid gameplay experience and storyline, although the protagonist and player character, Garrett, remains unchanged. Due to the available third-person perspective during gameplay, it can be considered a "third-person sneaker," as well as a "first-person sneaker" typical of the series. It was released in North America on May 25 and in Europe on June 11, 2004, for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox.

Experience
Although the first Thief game is considered by many to have begun a new era of 'first-person sneakers', Deadly Shadows may be considered the defining game of the Thief series, being the most refined and technically advanced. It has received almost universally positive reviews, with its greatly improved graphics and lighting, music and sound effects, and, like the first two games, has been remarked for certain instances of extremely effective gameplay and level design. Its realistic and immersive 3D graphics and visual effects, along with motion-captured, lip-synched character animation, improve significantly on the earlier Thief games.

Fully 3D animated interfaces span the game, even when not in missions. New to this Thief game, the player has the option to play the game in first-person or third-person perspectives, or switch back and forth during gameplay as convenient. The third-person viewpoint makes the game easier to play, considering Garrett and nearby guards fit easily into view. The narrowed vision first-perspective alternatively makes for more immersive gameplay and would probably be preferred by players of the earlier Thief games.

Storyline
It features a compelling storyline which explores "the City" and interiors of various notable constructions, such as the Keeper Compound, the Sunken Citadel, St. Edgar's Church, the Shalebridge Cradle and the Wieldstrom Museum.
The characters and guards within the game are from varied Factions within the Thief universe, the Keepers, Hammerites, Pagans and Kurshok. Heavily fantasy-themed creatures like ghosts and robots were dropped, in favor of human characters, human undead and humanoid beasts. Like the previous Thief games, the storyline primarily revolves around a major incident, the final and dramatic activation of the Final Glyph, the most powerful magical object revealed in the Thief series. Also unique to this game is the antagonist, the Hag and her minions.

System requirements
1.5 GHz CPU,
256 MB RAM,
64 MB video card RAM,
4X CD-ROM drive,
DirectX 9.0b,
3.0 GB available hard disk space,
Windows XP (WIN)

I agree, this game is really cool. It's not so dated, so i think it could be ciderized without too much problems - by someone of talent of course…  :P
Sorry, i'm not…, so i just wait and wait…  :?

Thief 3 doesn't work at all - Thief 1 & 2 could be ported if you apply the latest community patches for the DarkEngine.

I have yet to look at these, but I hope to find time soon...

cheers

I heard that Deadly Shadows is just unportable. Does it work on Crossover though?

This does work perfectly on CrossOver, I would port this but I can't find my CD.

Judging by the Codeweavers AppDB the most recent build of CX Games for Mac seems to run it rather well.

I think I'll take a second look at it.

CX Games 9.x is awesome - Thief 3 works pretty much flawlessly if you enable the proper mouse-hack.
There is a good chance that Deus Ex 2 will work too.

I'll try to get both games up here as soon as possible.

Oh yeah forgot about the mouse hack, just use MouseWarpOverride  "force-edge", though I'm sure you know this better than anyone  :D

A CXSkin port of this game has been posted some time ago - I'm locking this topic now.
