Refresh rate glitch - Java - Alchemy
Posted 08 January 2020 - 08:45 PM
My Mac Model, GPU & CPU:Mac Pro 3,1 Amd HD 7970, 2,8 GHz
Basically i try to run an "epic" app called Alchemy
I don't wanna re - install very old Java packages in my Mac just because of this one app, (btw 10.14 isn't supported anymore even if I would want to install Java 2017 from Apple) so I thought to install the window version of Alchemy instead .
After running Alchemy.exe you get a dialog saying that Java 1.5.0 is required.
So I go on :
Result, empty windows (no buttons no interface where buttons shall be etc)
I installed Java 1.6
Finally i get interface elements, but rendering is messed up. If I click the menu bar /buttons small portions of the clicked interface get "cloned" like a small "stamp" next to it, and this goes on if you keep clicking around on buttons or menu bar items. In the preferences, tabs flick back and forth once you click on one, so you can't set anything, preferences are perfectly unusable, scrolling flickers too. Example :in the shortcuts panel,
Didn't get Java runtime 1.7,so I installed straight Java Version 1.8 (loaded from Java 's homepage)
The installer didn't show up at all..
I tried to install gecko - why not if nothing improves - but nothing happened
Bah.. Best would be to rebuild the original app to work with the latest Java runtime available.. But that are dreams..

In wineTricks. The refresh bug is gone completely.
A) the size of the app is crazy. 1.3 GB für a 10 MB App... I'll try to build an older wrapper
I really have to replace the ugly standard font in the app. Will try some fonts in winetricks

The raw wineskin wrapper was around 560 MB, but Alchemy did not work before i had not installed java 5+java 6.22 with rendering set to gdi. Now the wrapper weights 830 MB. Java used pretty much space, as Alchemy is only 9 Mb large.
Some ideas how to make the wrapper slimmer?
