Well Nows your chance

Linux Is completely free and can be run in VM and Q emu.  Try Ubuntu and when you do get compiz to get the roling cube

Ohh and dos is what built windows and besides we have moved on from kernel programming in Dos and Unix

But if it were down to that  Unix for the win

That is so true...why can't capitalists change...I mean...what the fu*k are we still doing burning fossil fuels

---

What are the other Unix OS's?

As for Linux, if I had more time on my hands I would totally try it out...I knew it was free but seems a bit complicated...although I'm sure it's not beyond me. With school starting in under two months I doubt I'll find the time any time in the next couple years.

Well Linux and Mac  are Unix  But there is freeBSD  Solaris(GAYYYYY) Unity and thats about it.  Capitalists don't change because they are happy the way things are.

As for Linux  as a user I have to say It is as difficult as mac (Not difficult)  There is only one true difference wich is it more graphically appealing as demonstrated here

Linux Mint is awesome.. and easy to use, nothing complicated about it.  If/when I ever move from using OSX as a main OS, Linux Mint is my #1 choice.

Oh well I always thought Linux Mint was okay but then again I was running it in a VMware environment .  Pretty good as a dedicated game server setup.  Didn't last long because I was torn down by DDOS attack which afflicted my actual OS  so I wiped it

Hate to break it to ya, but this is a predominantly Mac forum. Not to say we don't love our Linux brethren (I mean, where would we be without them and their porting prowess?), but don't expect overwhelming support for Linux over Mac OS X.

And, one other question. What's wrong with being gay? And, if nothing is wrong with it, then why are you making fun of something by calling it "GAYYYYY"? Please use some other less offensive term. Thanks!  :)

Unix is pro.  It was first.  I can't see why gates deviated from unix and made his own kernel  it would have been easier and things would be more compatible

ok so there is no endless mindless chatter on the topic here

Do not use Unix came way before MAc  to argu linux is better

linux and unix are nix by nature there they are much alike

but they are not and i repeat not the same.

To describe OSX its more like A BSD (UNIX)  with a desktop layer or 2 maybe 3 on top of it.

technically its been around sence before linux just Apple im proved upon it

and i do believe nextstep was around sence linux begain too

i do love my linux i am a unix/linux admin after all

but as far as hatting OSX vs linux all the linux fan boi need to stoping hating them cause they cant afford it or some thing an look at it for what it is

And winbloze can die in a fire and maybe Balmer will throw more chairs cause ipad market alone could own him.

in the end its all about pereference and everyone is entitled to thier own so flame wars cause you want to think linux is better ause you cant handle the presure of not having your  fav OS loved by all just makes you a tool

And if you love winbloze seek help mental help

One of those was a rhetorical question...but I wish I had of made both of them that way.

Believe it or not. Yes, Linux and Mac are UNIX (and now the TF Kernel is not split UNIX, which is thought why Windows 7 is now faster).

But you missed something. FreeBSD actually came BEFORE mac. So to speak, FreeBSD is Mac OS's FATHER.

Mac OS(X) is a fork off of FreeBSD. FreeBSD is a fork off of Linux, which, Mac = Specialized flavor of Linux.

And Solaris was only really made to run Java at the hardware level instead of running Java apps through multiple levels (the JRE, JDK) until you hit the OS.

If you Run a Java App on Solaris compared to running the same app on Windows or Mac, With the same computer specs, you will see it running about 30% faster.

Errrrrr... FreeBSD is totally separate from Linux, they are both separate forks of UNIX, though lots of software (like GNOME) will work on both of them.

Also, OSX isn't a fork of FreeBSD directly. Apple created "Darwin", an Apple-coded UNIX-based OS that also uses code from NeXTSTEP, BSD, and other open-source projects, in 2000. Mac OS X is based on Darwin.

It seems to me that, you can sum up all your desires by way of operating system.

Mac offers fast and user friendly working, allowing tech savants and my grandma to use them with ease. They require a bit of tech savvy in order to have the same program diversity as windows, (the pretext of this whole forum is a great example) but the easy to use interface & software make it a very nice system that can pretty much go anywhere.

PC offers the most program diversity, so it is great for those that want to do almost anything. (As long as they are willing to face the viruses, crashes, freezes, blue screens of death.... Yeah)

Linux is way more obscure than mac, so you would never have to worry about viruses.... Or any other program for that matter. This is pretty much for those cave men that want to only serf and do work on their computers.

That's the world according to Bob. (Don't ask me who Bob is. I have no idea)
