Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

alien life... sure... as advanced as humans here?  no idea... could just be animal type life for all we know... or even single celled organisms, but the universe is too big of a place for life to only be here.

Chances are they do exist, its just the universe is so big that the chance that they would ever find us or we would ever find them, is incredibly small.

well the universe is around 15 billion years old (or something like that) and our galaxy is only 10-13 billion years old. so there is a whole 2-5 billions years there. and its pretty dumb to think that during those years there was no life at all and was just rocks floating around. :P

Well, if some omnipotent fellow walked up and told me aliens were out there (somewhere, in that nigh-infinitely large space), I really wouldn't be surprised. If said aliens managed to contact us in our little neck of the cosmic woods, that would be impressive. If we could understand what they were saying? Then I'd be really surprised.

This makes me want to read more Neal Stephenson...

Oh, yes indeed, there's "possibly" just about anything. When one's working with a domain of infinite space, I'd dare say it's hard to disprove the possible existence of anything.

I mean, with the multiple-universe thing, we might be dealing with a universe where pi is 3.14158, or maybe some other gravitational constant is such that the formation of stars is impossible! Then things really start to get weird, and people start applying Darwinian selection to whole universes / cosmi...

I think I'm going off track here...so I'll just say, yes, aliens likely exist. Somewhere.

How could there not be?

There's too much out there for us to be the only life.
Even without dimensions and multiple universes.

This is true, at least from what we can perceive.

Though I do feel that a good amount of things we claim about space is fairly arbitrary. Not being able to travel too far out of our immediate area keeps us from seeing what is truly going on.

Yeah they exist just not intellegent or friendly - scientists have been sending all sorts of radiowaves into space to see if they get replies and have had nothing :(

I keep reading about all these planets with ungodly temperatures but could still house single-celled organisms. Honestly I wouldn't even care if THOSE are the only "aliens" out there... it's still brilliant that life can easily exist somewhere else than here, intelligent or not.

I was gonna find a link to that same doc if it wasn't it. I've seen a couple of really informative flicks on the subject. I'll try to remember the titles and post back...and yes....nasa footage of unknown beings in the atmosphere = aliens out there

If you don't think there is alien life out there you probably believe in "God"

and its perfectly plausible to believe in both.  Most religions do not preclude alien life as possible.

But some consider humans to have been created in the image of God. Believing in Aliens kinda makes no sense then.

I think one of the hardest things to accept is that there is more in the world than what you see in your reality. Everyone has their own life but you don't know if there was someone watching you or your whole galaxy was being controlled by another.

those same people cannot even describe or imagine the image of God, or what that statement even means.  Does it mean bipedal?  does it mean looks at all, or is it talking about ideals.. thoughts... what?  It never said that only humans on Earth were made in the image of God... and the original words of image didn't mean only a physical representation.

how could there not be alien life? Earth is no more than a grain of sand in the universe. There have to be billions of billions of planet - and if only every 10.000th of those developed life...

Not true.  I am a Christian.  I believe in God.  Though the texts of the bible we follow doesn't speak past the books written by their human authors that's not to say life doesn't exist somewhere else out there.

Do I think any aliens have found us, visit us, 'kidnap' us for experiments ?  Not at all.  I feel our technology is simply to good to not have had some decent video footage of the many oddities people claim to see. ie. aliens, Bigfoot, Lochness monster, and so on.
