warmonger: ODD is based on the unreal engine 3. I am attempting to make a wineskin wrapper for it.

I am using the WS4 WineCXG9.0.0 engine at the moment. (would a different engine work better?)

so far, everything has gone smoothly, it installed correctly, and all that.

the first time I tried to run it, it gave me the starting splash screen, the screen turned white, but then it crashed giving me this error:

Runtime Error!

program: C\Program Files\NetDevil\Warmonger\Binaries\WMGame.exe

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
please contact the application's support team for more information.

any ideas? does the wineskin have visual C++, or do i need to install it manually?

EDIT: here is the console from debug mode

well, i tried installing the visual C++ library distribution package, and it no longer gives me a message about that, but now it gives me this:

General protection fault!

History: address = 0x5a257c (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files\NetDevil\Warmonger\Binaries\WMGame.exe]

also, I jave discovered that Warmonger seems to no longer exist. the website is down, the forum is down, and i can't find any "official" site for it ANYWHERE.

:\

looks like I am on my own with this.

CXG 9.0.0 is quite old...  I'd try Wine 1.2, Wine 1.3.0 or GCX9.1.0 (which is Wine 1.2 based)... but with that problem, it may be no help.

I tried wine1.3, no change.

I did look up "general protection faults" in general, and it is a fairly common problem, as far as I can tell.

would I have better luck trying something else? like cider or cxz?

dunno... always worth a shot, but with that type of error, I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.  Has anyone else ever gotten the game to run under Wine? lookig at the AppDB it doesn't look very hopeful

ok, I tried porting it with CXZ, (black diamond engine. it was the one I had) and now it launches, but it will only display in 600x800 (if I change it, the colors get all messed up) and when I start an actual game, the UI shows up, but nothing else (so basically crosshair, ammo bar, etc over a black background.) although I can move around and shoot and hear stuff breaking. (it's supposed to do that)

anyway, would a different cxz engine work better for this?

ok, I tried downloading the newest engine (ebony) and tried it. now the graphics show up behind the UI, but the screen occasionally flashes red, blue or green, and the mouse tracking does not work. (the mouse buttons are still fire, but moving the mouse does not move the view) I can rotate the view with the left and right arrow keys.

the mouse tracking is my main concern at this point.

any ideas?

huh. I went back to try this again, and now it launches into a blank white screen with sound. (it doesn't crash though)

how do I get CXZ ebony to launch in debug mode?

MAJOR UPDATE

I got it to work! I switched the windows version to vista, and now all of the major bugs are gone. everything seems to work, however there are still a few bugs. the major ones are lack of mousecontrol and the screen still has occasional graphics glitches.

also, 50th post woo!

Good for you. :)
