Has anyone tried a Just Cause 2 port?
I dont know enough about serious porting to do any good here, my efforts were thrown away carelessly
All i know is that that is the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time, and i would love to be able to play it again (I dont have an xbox, played it at a friend's house)

Game Description:
Just Cause 2 employs the Avalanche Engine 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause.[6] The game is set on the other side of the world from the original Just Cause, on the fictional island of Panau in Southeast Asia. Panau has varied terrain, from desert to alpine to rainforest. Rico Rodriguez returns as the protagonist, aiming to overthrow the evil dictator Pandak "Baby" Panay and confront his former mentor, Tom Sheldon.

I don't know guys, I looked at the WineHQ ratings.  It looks like they were trying with dx10 and really old wine versions.  This might be worth a shot.

well its definetly POSSIBLE i mean we got crysis working great. But even if you can get the game running good the performance wont be very good in wine since DX10 is very good in wine

If the game only supports DX10, then currently its impossible.
If it can run in DX9 then it's possible, but as far as I know theres no DX9 mode.

Are you 100% sure it's in DirectX9? I cant find anything on the net about it working with that.
Even the system requirements state minimum of DirectX10

Hi
There has been a bit of talk on another thread that porting Just Cause 2 might now be possible in wineskin.

Game Description
Just Cause 2 employs the Avalanche Engine 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause.[6] The game is set on the other side of the world from the original Just Cause, on the fictional island of Panau in Southeast Asia. Panau has varied terrain, from desert to alpine to rainforest. Rico Rodriguez returns as the protagonist, aiming to overthrow the evil dictator Pandak "Baby" Panay and confront his former mentor, Tom Sheldon.

AppDB Rating
Garbage (was with old versions of wineskin)

Another topic had people talking about forcing Xfire to run Just cause 2 in DirectX9. I'm not sure if wine supports DX10 right now so it might be a good game to port.

Game is still not portable...as you can see on the appdb that the newest version of wine has been tried and failed...I have gotten xfire to limit the game to dx9 but still do dice...only thing that works is into vids...and thats about it

due the fact that consoles are not able to run dx10 it must be possible to run jc2 in dx9.
but ms wants to push vista/7 at the release of jc2. so this game normaly will not start on dx9-only pc like xp.
never heard about that xfire can push jc2 in dx9 mode.

maybe its possible to install this "dx10 fix for xp" in a wrapper. but all this fix do is to change your dxdiag readout to show dx10. but hey ...could work :D

yeah. but the fix did not install dx10.
just the dxdiag window shows dx10.
would guess this will not affect wine. but when jc2 just check through dxdiag wich version is installed then it could run.
when this xfire trick is really working and not just false displayed by xfire itself then it could run.

could you pls look in your "xfire_games.ini"

must look something like this
[6172]
LongName=Just Cause 2
ShortName=justc2
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\InstallPath
LauncherExe=JustCause2.exe
DetectExe=JustCause2.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% -applaunch 8190 %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D10
InGameFlags=USE_PRESENT|ENABLE_MOUSE|USE_DINPUT_MOUSE

or is there InGameRenderer=D3D9

xfire just use startuparguments.
so the normal game must also start just with the -d3d9 argument in dx9 mode when this trick work.
