I already did this a couple of years back, but i stumbled over this again last week.

World of Warcraft (the Game that sucks out your soul) is a pay-monthly-to-play Game.
You'll receive great content on the official Servers and you can play with millions of other people.

If you just want to run around a bit (like me) and see for yourself what beautiful World Blizzard has come up with, then some free server would be a good choice.

A free server isn't as much fun as the official one, since leveling up and battling is somewhat different there.

There are hundreds of free Servers out there but lets go with this user-friendly one:
http://www.itrwow.com/

Grab the torrent for the mac Client from their 'Getting Started' Page - this is a big one, 18GB (why they didn't go with DMG compression here is beyond me), and make a quick account with email, username and pass.

If that's all done, launch the World of Warcraft.app and use your username (not email like it's stated there) and pass to log into the Game on itrwow's Server.

Note:
When the Game updater pops up when you try to log in, this means that the game wants to update itself to a new version from Blizzard's servers. -Quit don't let this happen!
The Game must stay with version 3.3.5a, only this version is currently allowed on itrwow's server.

I had to use Little Snitch to block the first URL the game wants to connect to (blahblah.blizzard.com) to deny the Updater to reach the official WoW Server.
If he first URL is blocked, Login should work if you unblock the links to the itrwow Server.
(Basically deny all blizzard.com outgoing traffic, while allowing only itrwow urls with Little Snitch)

I'll explore the world a bit when life's boing, perhaps we'll meet there.
So be careful, don't get lost in this Soul Sucker :P
Of course, if you like the Game then you can also get it from Blizzard or a official 10 Day trial here
Hello. Sadly, I am not active here on the Porting Team anymore, and therefore I cannot give support or answer questions to any of my posted Ports or posted topics.

I used to play on a server called neverendless-wow

http://neverendless-wow.com/

definitely one of the larger blizz-like servers but you have to remember private servers are not the same as paying!

For me the best private server is Molten WoW: https://www.molten-wow.com/

This server has so many working thing that it feels like you play retail, only the downside is that there are many players on the queue and it takes and hour or 2 to log in, but once you are in you won't log out for a while ;)

Does anyone know if there are 4.2 servers? I've been playing retail, but would really like to have the "private server" experience :)
