About Escape Velocity a bit:
Escape Velocity is an older 2D mac Game from AmbrosiaSW, in which you take the role of a Rookie Space Adventurer who sets foot into the vast Galaxy.
Deciding on the Missions you take you could end up a Military man, a Rebel, a Trader or a Pirate.
Escape Velocity &Override and Nova were great hits on the mac platform, and we have to thank Ambrosia Software for standing by the mac's dark ages in gaming

Considering the original Escape Velocity and EV Override were mac for Mac OS 8-9 (Classic) and not Mac OS X compatible, AmbrosiaSW released a followup called EV Nova. (Universal Binary)
some time ago, w00tware released some tools for additional programming for Nova, and some people also ported the classic Games (Escape Velocity & Override) to the new Game Engine.

About Escape Velocity Trilogy:
All three Escape Velocity Games (Escape Velocity, EV Override and EV Nova) are available via this app.
I've always wanted to combine the 3 Games into one app. Considering starting into programming a bit and my recent work with Launchers, now i could make it.

The Escape Velocity Trilogy Launcher is a smart way of handling Pilot files (save games), Plug-Ins and Backups, together with a bit of eye-candy.
The EV Trilogy Launcher basically weaves to 3 Games together, since they use the same Resource Paths, while being not compatible with each other. (Pilot files and Plugins)

Image Image Image

The EV Trilogy Launcher features:
- quick startup of Escape Velocity, EV Override and EV Nova
- smart and easy automatic Resource mapping for Pilots and Plugins
- automatic Pilot (savegames) backup feature
- automatic import of older EV Nova Pilots & Plugins
- easy enabling/disabling of Plugins
- random Launcher Wallpapers
- background Music
- features all Signatures from the Games' main creators
- useful web links to buying the Game, Walkthroughs, Wikias, etc.
- Mac OS 10.5+ compatible, + PPC compatible

No Game files have been modified, EV Nova and the other games are like you have to download them from Ambrosia Software's website. (Shareware. support native mac games!)
Meaning you have to buy the Game if you like it/play it.
By default, EV Trilogy stays in the 30 Day trial until you type in your Registration Code.

Notes:
Normally EV Nova has Mac OS 10.3.9 compatibility, so it will work on old-ass old macs.
Because of my Xcode and some code like the titlebar-less Launcher this is 10.5+ upwards only. (Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion) Most people don't have a Panther or Tiger mac around anymore so that's a non-issue.

Not wanting to let the classics go down, (hence my title) Escape Velocity is a must for every Space-nut and Arcade Gamer.
Also i'm taking a break from Wine-related porting, because Wine increasingly gets on my nerves.

Regarding Questions/Requests/other stuff on EV Trilogy, feels free top make a new Topic in the EV Trilogy Section.

See you Space Cowboy.

P.S.: If you like the Escape Velocity Series, feel free to drop AmbrosiaSW a line to bring them to iOS devices.
EV Nova on the iPad, would be really something, no?
Other Game companies have created something similar, too, so now it's just laziness on the Developers part :P

Easily some of the best games of this era that nobody's ever heard of. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who enjoyed them.

Holy crap! I cannot explain how amped I am about the prospect of playing these games again - many, many spent hours as a kid running away from pirates and so forth. Yay!

Only problem is that I am unable to run the application through the launcher. When I select "Trial" mode, I get the following pop-up:

Checksum mismatch! Either your data files are corrupted, or you've been tampering with them. Sorry, but you're not allowed to alter the Nova scenario files until you register.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

@confute
Either try copying over the EVT from the disk image again, or try to move the EV Nova and EV Trilogy folders in username/Library/Application Support temporary somewhere else.

Thanks for the quick reply, DH. I'll try that and report back. I got a copy of Nova to work in crossover and experienced a megaton nostalgia bomb. I spent my allowance on this game when I was a kid

edit: worked on re-install. Thanks again!

The error you are encountering is because the versions of Escape Velocity and Escape Velocity:Override are ports of the originals to Nova. When Nova was first released, there was a very active plugin community for the EV games and checksums were included to make sure the user wasn't trying to use plugins with a version of Nova that had not been purchased. The error message you describe to what Escape Velocity: Nova displayed when someone tried to use a plugin...which is exactly what the EV and EVO games are.

I was able to replicate the error message. The only real solution is to enter a valid registration code for EV: Nova. I found mine in my old 2002 email archive, entered it, and was able to play the EV and EVO versions fine.

I'm sorry that after such a long break.
Escape velocity works, but I have a question about the game. I have Kestrel and 2 Corvette (escort), but I can not attack the planet. Planet writes: "Do not laught at me." What should I do to be able to attack the planet?

Thanks!

Your Combat Rating needs improvement, mate!  To get your combat rating up quickly you'll need to kill ships with more people on board (Frigates, Bulk Freighters), until you have a Combat Rating of Deadly or higher.  The planets don't care about what ship you have.
