New Version 1.0 (DOSbox 0.73) released 12:15 AM GMT on July 4nd, 2009

New in this version (1.0)
• Initial Release
• See readme.pdf for more information

this is a wrapper designed to help you make a DOS game port to OSX using DOSbox.

Its designed to make a full self contained .app package that can just double click and run DOS games like its a normal Mac app.

It has a menu system to help you getting your game installed and working, then once done you can disable the menu so running the app just launches the game.

This is my first release version, please see the readme.pdf with it for direction on how to use it

Link to 1.0 version is here

BUGS
for awhile the version i had for download I had compile options set wrong and it was compiled as Intel only.... I have fixed this and the current download is a UB.... sorry.

FUTURE PLANS
• build a better version as a UB with support back to old versions of OSX.
• needs a better GUI, and a way to swap out DosBox versions (which can be done manually now)
• if anyone wants to work on this... let me know, spending most all my time on Wineskin.

this is cool. All we need now is a stripped-down version of parallels in a .app to run games that way!

VMware runs better... well.. I dont know on the release version, but the future testing versions are much better than parallels...

but Dosbox is free, VMware and Parallels is not...  Its possible to make a VMware virtual appliance that is a game... but it would require anyone who used it to have a Windows license and a VMware license... plus its not neary as good as Wine.  Dosbox only runs good because all the old DOS games are not very demanding.

I've seen Windows 3.11 running in DosBox before, so it's definitely doable, penyuan.  I'd personally like to get Windows 95 working (there's supposed to be a way to do it).  Though, in all honesty, I'm just gonna port Chex Quest, most likely.

I've run Win 3.11 under DOSBox on my WinXP laptop. There's a guide on the official DOSBox forums on how to do it.

I've been using Boxer all along, it's free, it's easy, it's UB, and it's the best Dosbox solution on OS X, in my humble opinion.
The newest alpha even has HQx smoothing.

I only needed this wrapper today, when I tried porting and running Dungeon Keeper.
I'm sure there will be a way to play it on Boxer, but I just couldn't find it (for now).

EDIT:
Got it running on Boxer, heh.

I just made this to be ultra simple, pretty much just like using Dosbox manually.  Boxer seems to be heavily modified.

You can change out the Dosbox executable in this to different versions of Dosbox if needed.  I have one game that wouldn't work right with Dosbox 0.73, but I dropped in the executable to Doxbox 0.72 and it worked great.

OSXDosbox Wrapper trumps Boxer - IMO.

Question for you though Doh - as I always wondered:

What is the minimum requirements for this

OS 10.xx and above Intel / PPC? - ie any version of OS X?

Cheers.

I don't have a clue really.... made it a long time ago... and haven't really touched it since. Its Applescript Studio.. and the DOSbox in it is a UB... I think its 10.3 PPC or later, but it might be 10.4 or even 10.5 for all I know... was back when i first started doing any programming on a Mac so I didn't know much about how to make it compatible with stuff at the time.

I've never used Boxer but I'm sure from what I've seen it does a lot more... this is bare minimums.

there is a DosBox program in Contents/MacOS

You should be able to take a DosBox.app Mac version and take the DosBox program out of its Contents/MacOS folder and replace it in this wrapper... I did this on a port before to go back to 0.72 to fix a regression problem.  dropping in 0.74 should work fine... it just has 0.73 in it already.

no idea.. I guess it was in the original zip, which got corrupted and missing somehow and I had to re-upload.  since its been a few years, I don't have it anymore, or remember what was in it, but I think it was pretty short.
