macDC: A Sega Dreamcast emulator for mac.



Based on Demul 0.1, a great emulator with pretty good compatibility.

Known issues:
You have to reconfigure controls a lot.
May be a little bit slower than native windows.

Note: the gpuOGL plugin doesn't have good compatibility at all, so use gpuDX instead.  


Mandatory settings:
Video settings: Frame Limit Enabled
CPU Mode: DynaRec

Evolution is listed as not playable on this, but it runs very well with this emulator.

System requirements:
Intel mac
150 MB HardDrive

Note: Not tested on GMA 950, but GMA X3100 works pretty well.

Let me know how this works on better systems, and if you have recommendations, I would love to hear them!

(only an old version of Demul would work, the others are way too hard to configure, and they give a bunch of errors after configuration)



nullDC emulator: It runs a lot faster with the games that are compatible, but the list of compatible games is fewer than Demul.

Skies of Arcadia: playable

As you can see, the text does not show up right, and the audio is sometimes very slow, but everything else works fine.

Grandia II: playable

Half of the message boxes are missing, but that does not affect anything. There are very minor graphic flickering, but it does not affect the game at all. The audio is out of sync with the text. Sometimes there is no audio.

Overall, this is a very fun and playable game.

Cool!! If I insert my Dreamcast disks would they work?

I think so, but you would have to change the disk plugin to one of the other 2 (I forget what the right one is called)

and if it doesn't, use toast and make a disk image, or if that doesnt play, I'll try to port a dc game ripper.

Cool, i know when i put a PlayStation disk, and a Saturn disk in my mac just spits it back out without even loading!! Is that jut here or does everyone get that?

I've had trouble getting zeroPSX to recognize PSX discs, especially if they have CD audio.

I'm not even sure how to properly make an image file out of them on a Mac.

But to answer your question, no, it doesn't just spit the discs out.

I have a newer version of this working (0.4.8)

It has better compatibility, but it also kills games (like evolution)

nullDC seems to work a lot better for a lot of games, so I'll make a wrapper for nullDC.

On Skies of Arcadia, it runs 95%-105% the whole time, the graphics are all intact including the text, and the audio sounds normal.

I'll test more of course.

On grandia 2 everything works fine with macDC, even the FMVs I'm pretty sure.

Use my nullDC port for Skies of Arcadia.

And in order to save at all, you have to start the emulator without a game and go to the memory tab, and choose the memory cards and format them. Then saving should work.
