Thanks in advance.

Game Description:
Battlefield 3 features the maximalist combined arms battles that made the series popular across single-player, co-operative and multiplayer modes. It reintroduces several elements absent from the Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position and 64-player battles on PC.[7][8] To accommodate the lower player count on consoles, the ground area is limited for Xbox 360 and PS3, though fly space remains the same.[9]
During an interview with Game Informer Magazine, EA stated that Commander Mode is unlikely to be included,[10] which was met with some criticism on the EA forum.[11]
The game features maps set in Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, Sulaymaniyah, New York, Wake Island and Oman.[citation needed] As a whole, combat takes place in urban streets, metropolitan downtown areas, and open landscapes suited to vehicle combat.[12]
Battlefield 3 introduces the "Battlelog"; a free cross-platform social service with built-in text messaging, voice communications (VOIP), game statistics, and the ability to join games that friends are already playing (though both players need to be on the same platform).[13]

As for now, it's impossible to port BF3, because it's only DX10/DX11.
Wine, nor cider, does not have support for full DX10 yet, and therefore not possible.

Same with cider.

i'm sorry, but we must patiently wait for codeweaver or transgaming to make DX10 compatible with wine or cider.

Cluthz is right unless wine or cider can support DX10/11 don't expect this to be ported anytime soon.

There are already coded server browser you can use instead. If wine or cider would support dx10, I bet I would get it running somehow.

I think a lot of stock macs would be okay BF3 is not that much of a hog as people tout its a console engine that streams well.. have a quad core for 64 players and and good 2core for 32 and you are good 2 go

I think EA will port it them selves thou. once more of the DLC is out

Nowadays the saying of Macs not being made for games is simply a myth. The hardware bests most PC laptops out there. The 2011 models can go toe-to-toe against mainstream gaming PC laptops, and comparable to the higher end ones. Pretty impressive jump made in just two years.

Any 2010 (15 or 17 inch) or newer MBP can run it fine. 2011 models on high, 2010 low-med.
iMacs (even a couple of years old) should be able to run it at high or better (the newer ones anyway, older probably medium-high), and Mac Pros should be able to run it just as well as the 2011 MBPs I would say (depends on installed GPU).
This is through Bootcamp obviously. Results won't be as good with Wine when it eventually supports dx10.

The 2011 models will run it ok, but on high settings are really pushing it.
My GTX285 does drop below 30 fps often on high settings and it's twice as fast as 6770M

I doubt EA will release a mac version, since they need to do something that's never done on macs, dx10.
So far all ports, native or not have omitted all dx10 functions and just stuck with dx9.
Also I guess it will never come to mac since EA rely on cider, instead of making real ports.
I would have loved a Cider wrapped BF3 tho, because then we have a wrapper with dx10 support :D

Even if direct X10 would work in wine or cider, your macbook would never run it(it would be laggier than it is supposed to be on windows and you already have a pretty weak card.

Not possible, because Battlefield 3 simply has no DirectX 9 mode.

Yeap. That's why crysis 2 crashes if you turn up graphics to max.
Both wine and cider can run some dx10 functions, but not full DX10.
The first game I've actually saw used dx10 calls was Mirror's Edge which calls several DX10 functions and actually quite a few of them works pretty well.

Anyways, games that requires full DX10 or 11 will not run in wine/cider yet and all topics regarding dx10 games should be closed until wine or cider gets an update.

Nah. Just Cause 2 CANNOT run on Wine because it requires Windows Vista or Windows 7 and DX10 too. http://appdb.winehq....ation&iId=11316 It's garbage now.

I know some people can play onlive version on Mac OS X.

Because those are only config files, no binaries. The OpenGL Renderer was not build into the PC Version.
