Well, I couldn't find beta2 anymore, so I used beta3.

I tried with TESIV: Oblivion in virtual desktop and I had two issues:

1. even though I tell it not to decorate the windows, the desktop itself is now decorated with a mac window bar. This happened with both the system and the new one (but the system one is 2.7.1rc1, so also quite new). I don't quite remember if this also happened earlier. It certainly does happen now that I changed the wrapper back to 2.5.3.
2. mouse no longer sticks to my virtual desktop and even getting to the exit button and confirm was a struggle. This definitely did not happen with the previous version. Unless something specific got wiped in the upgrade, but upon switching it back to 2.5.3, the mouse was fine again.

So I am sorry to say it isn't quite ready yet :(..  On the upside, updating the wrapper no longer causes a crash :).

Same on TESV:Skyrim :(. Instead of barely being able to look around I was now looking at the ground at once...

It might be a problem of interfacing between Wine and X11, because I had this looking at the ground in Oblivion in an recent (pre1.4rc2) Wine version with 2.5.3 as well. Or that might have a completely different cause..

If you mean setting a virtual desktop is always decorated, i know... this is a change in Wine like at 1.3.37 or the 1.4 RCs sometime lately.  If you run a virtual desktop, Wine now always forces window decorations on.  It shouldn't affect any other mode except virtual desktop

I have no idea what your talking about... need more details.  Have you confirmed this with multiple Wine versions?

OK, I can live with a decorated virtual desktop, I was just wondering.

I will try with 1.4r3 tonight if and when it comes out, and maybe a few others.

Obviously, the 2.5.4 ship has sailed, but that hasn't changed my TESIV:Oblivion experience:

With wrapper 2.5.3, I could use mouse without problems
With wrapper 2.5.4, mouse follows the desktop mouse, even when wine is active, both in fullscreen and virtual desktop.

The latter is actually true in wine 1.4rc2 and 1.4rc3. I switched back to 1.3.36 and my mouse pointer disappeared entirely :(.

It seems that somehow the wrapper is not grabbing the mouse.. Let me know if and how I can get you

Also something for the release notes: I needed to manually recreate my custom exe launcher.

Best wishes,
Oscar

I noticed in a few I've run, if you don't have window decoration enabled (or if your in override->fullscreen since it doesn't even launch quartz-wm), sometimes you have to click to get focus.  I recall this bug happening when I was first trying to get 2.5 out, so I'm not sure how it crept back in.  I've never seen it cause a problem more than be annoying though since you have to click to get focus before you can do anything.

I was using decorated widows now and override>fullscreen, so that shouldn't be it.

In virtual desktop I had to click on the window to activate it after switching away, but there I clearly had two mouse pointers: one in Wine and one acting on my desktop on top of it. The pointer position was limited by the Mac desktop, and because the pointer in Oblivion moved slower, I could not reach all sides of my screen.

I didn't even get beyond the title screen because the resume/load buttons were too far to the left, so that my desktop mouse pointer was hanging over the dock (which I have on the left of my screen, not on the bottom)..

The same happened in fullscreen, though I couldn't see the Mac pointer.

I might try with the various mouse warp settings in Wine, but those never worked for me before.

no idea how you got it to do that... almost sounds like the game is running a software pointer... but I've never seen anything like that.

Override->Fullscreen does not even start quartz-wm... so the "decorate windows" option does nothing when this is the setting... it will not decorate no matter if you check it or not.

I've tried a few programs now and all of them get focus right except Override->Fullscreen for me... but I have not seen 2 mouse pointers or had any problems clicking.

I checked the code where the problem was last time with not getting focus, and its working right, so its some new bug... XQuartz assumes quartz-wm is always going to be running, so they don't think about what will happen if its not.  For the override->Fullscreen function to be useful, we really cannot have it running, or it will be a fullscreen with a virtual desktop window on top of it.

The focus loss bug is similar but not exactly the same as the one I fought with before.

I found that it happened sometime between xorg-server 1.11.0 and 1.11.99.1 which is several commits.  I need to do some bisecting to find out what specific code started the issue and I'll get it fixed in the WineskinX11 executable for the next update.

I still cannot get it to occur if quartz-wm is running though, so not sure it'll address everything.

Grats Doh.
I think I can wrap everything into a much better interface if you're looking for UI improvements. E.g. Sparrow, Reddit HD.
I'm using EDSidebar which mimics the design and is VERY customizable.

As you can see below, I was doing a quick test with freeware icons.

I can see I nice interface of wineskin with EDSidebar. Let me know if you're interested in a fork.

Ehm, maybe you would like to start a new thread about UI frameworks?

I was kinda hoping to hear from people who have technical ideas about mouse focus here... ;)

Thanks,
Oscar

Test this out... take a wrapper with mouse focus issues and change out the Contents/MacOS/WineskinX11 file with the one here... I have this one working right with mouse focus on start up so unmanaged windows get mouse focus right.

As to changing the UI... any UI improvements are welcome.  I'm not sure what I'd do with EDSidebar though... it looks ok, but I'm not a huge fan of side section tab things like that.

OK, I tried it out, with and without window decoration in virtual desktop and it crashed every time :(. Then I set it to fullscreen and the game loaded fine (but that apparently disables the WM). Here's the logs, but they didn't tell me much..

ok I cannot get Oblivion to crash... make sure your using d3dx9_27 from directX and not Wine...

also, the mouse bug I see it happening where I cannot move it all around, it hits invisible walls... this is happening in 2.5.4 and the WineskinX11 linked above.

I tried the WineskinX11 from 2.5.3 and it DOESN'T happen... the newer one only happens with newer Wine builds... 2.5.4 with Wine 1.3.9 doesn't have the problem...

I suspect its an issue with Xinput2... something that got patched into xorg-server that is breaking this... WineskinX11 2.5.3 is a build around xorg-server 1.10.3 and now I'm using a 1.12 RC.  This means I'm going to have to do a regression test from when it worked to when it didn't and find the commit in xorg-server that broke it, and make a change in WineskinX11 source... so don't expect it to be a fast fix.

Ah, I am using the Wine d3dx9_27, so there is a gap there. But it worked fine in 2.5.3 so I figured that wasn't the culprit.

I don't expect anything more than you working on this when you feel like it, but I am happy to see that the problem wasn't just on my system.

Well I can run Oblivion fine right now on 2.5.4 using WS8Wine1.3.9 with the d3dx9_27 override ... I haven't tested with it off in newer versions because the earlier 1.3.x series you had to have it... and I just noticed your crash log was referencing d3dx9_27.dll

Thanks for checking. Yes, I used to have it as well, but I recently updated my wine to 1.4rc2 and I noticed it said platinum in the wine appdb. So I made a backup and removed all the overrides. And that worked when I still used the 2.5.3 wrapper. I figured it might be a little faster.

I recall that Wine switched from xinput1 to xinput2 somewhere in the 1.3.2x series or somewhere, so that would be consistent with an xinput2 problem: works with 2.5.4 in early 1.3.x because it uses xinput1, mouse gets confused with 2.5.4 and 1.4rcx because of xinput2..

ok... i don't think its a problem on my end.

I tested some more using the 2.5.3 build and some really old builds of XQuartz and it still happens.  It looks like a bug in Wine and not Wineskin... as older Wine builds are not having the same issue... and its happening for me in 2.5.3.

Hmm. I just wish I knew enough about what goes wrong to file a bug with the right people and sufficient information for them to work on it.

I don't have space for a whole coding environment on my macbook and I don't have experience with the code. It is somewhat frustrating to be so helpless about it..

Anyway, thanks a lot for looking into it!

I just tested several engines.

WS8Wine1.3.18 works ok... 1.3.19 and later all have problems.  On some there is no mouse at all, and in some it gets stuck on invisible walls.

the time around 1.3.15 - 1.3.25 had TONS of mouse work done and the re-wrote a lot of mouse code... apparently I think they missed something that affects OSX.

Well, that is a comfort, in a twisted way. Thanks for sticking to it.

This one at least shows up early. I had a crash in Dragon Age: Origins and I had to go through character creation every time. That got quite old already after 10 or so tests..

We knew there might still be mouse issues left, but I wonder how to trace those. I'll help collect logs or something if you tell me how. As for the crash, that then is something for Jeremy Huddleston. Either way, disecting the crash will probably be a pain, and I am really not expecting miracle solutions :).

well I just got Wine 1.4 to run Oblivion fine with d3dx9_27 using normal XQuartz 2.7 RC something close to what is in Wineskin 2.5.4... no mouse issue.

I'm going ot make a build with no WIneskinX11 patches in it.. pure stock... and see if it still happens, then go back through my WineskinX11 patches and see if one of them is causing it.  its an older one if it is since its happening for me in 2.5.3 too.  i already tested all the dylibs with normal XQuartz seeing if it was some other library messing up, but it doesn't appear to be so.

ok.. I'm currently at a loss.

I did a stock build of XQuartz for WineskinX11 without any changes to the code... it has the same mouse problem at 2.5.4 does... but if I use stock pre-built XQuartz, it doesn't have the problem.

EDIT:
Even more weird.
It actually does have the same problem in XQuartz.  If I launch XQuartz then start Oblivion, the problem occurs... if I close Oblivion and start it again, then it runs fine... it only does it the first time it runs wine and starts up the game... if I close XQuartz and start it again, it happens again on the first run.  Since WineskinX11 is running fresh every time, we see the problem every time.

Very odd indeed! Maybe there is something that isn't properly initialised then? Thanks for digging!

Are you sure you meant d3dx9_27? Winetricks has an option for d3dx9_26, but not _27. I know I can install that one manually and make the override, but I wanted to make sure you meant _27.

Thanks!

i know its weird.. but 27 is the one I had to do... just stuck it manually myself, and added it in winecfg
