Ok, here is what happened.  I bought Halo 2 vista and installed it into a cider wrapper.  I was pretty sure it wouldn't work, but it does!  Unfortunately, whenever you change the graphics settings, the game crashes.  The game is automatically set to max settings, so the game has a choppy frame rate!  If I could just get the settings to low or even medium, I could run it well!  I tried using the xp loader, but no luck.  If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, I will upload the wrapper as soon as possible!

Thanks, wMin17

BTW, I used cider engine 7081

Nice work.
Is there a config file in the Halo 2 program files directory? If so, you can probably change the graphical settings there.
If not, it looks like you can make changes via command line arguments. That's for Halo 1, but it might work for Halo 2 as well. Worth a shot!

I'm not entirely sure how to do CMD line arguments in Cider. I know CiderX has support for it, so maybe you could ask Drakulix if no one else knows.

P.S. I moved the topic to the Ask For Help (Game Ports) section.

Could you post the steps you used to do this? I'd love to run Halo 2 on Mac.

The video settings are in the registry.

Try wineskin. I know that Halo 1 works perfectly in wine. I know that Cider has a chance too from what you said. You think you can try to get Devil May Cry 4 working? Demo doesn't seem to work.

I have a Halo 2 installation still on my harddisk - I assume you need to add some reg values to the Cider registry to make the game work properly as Cider doesn´t automatically add them by default and installers don´t work with it - also additional Windows dlls might be required.

You can upload your wrapper here if you want or PM me a link and I can take a quick look at it.

Can't we just try to run it with the Halo 2 demo for vista?

I'll give it a shot later today - I'm currently at work, does this work on 10.6 because I don't have a Lion installation with me atm.

So what are the steps to get Halo 2 working with this? It looks like just the standard 5290 wrapper with a Halo icon. You said you were using 7081?

BTW, I am using the official version I bought at best buy, so it is bound to work best on that.  However, it would be helpful if people tried the cracked version too...... Once I upload the correct wrapper....  srry for any confusion

This is how I do command line arguments with cider.. surprised no one has mentioned it you have to add it to your Cider config file (the one that has overrides and such):

[appdefaults\\GAME\\transgaming]
;;"cmdlineadd" = "arguments"

example... from my personal Doom 3 port:

[appdefaults\\doom3.exe\\transgaming]
;;"cmdlineadd" = "+set fs_game d3xp"
;;"cmdlineadd" = "+set fs_game Phantasm_Beyond"
"cmdlineadd" = "+set fs_game sikkmod"

The commented lines are so I can have different mods installed and just switch between them my commenting\uncommenting.

Could you please make it cracked? My Mac version is:

Mac OS X

Version 10.6.8

I'm new to this stuff.
If you could make a Cracked version for my type of Mac, please notify me if it's possible, it would be so helpful, I've been looking for a working Halo 2 for AGES.
If you could help me through this, possibly a tutorial on how to make this work, please tell me.

I hope this isn't too much to ask, I mean you wouldn't be helping JUST me, you would be helping many.

PS: thedoctor45 and wMin17? Thanks for porting this, you guys are awesome.

Sorry, I tried the Halo 2 cracked version and it results in a blue screen, but I when I tried the dvd version I bought at best buy for 19.99, it worked great!  So the only thing I can say is that you might have to buy the game if we don't find a fix for this.  Sorry for being so delayed, I have been overworked and it's hard to work on this port at the same time :(

But it's an if, right? So, there still is a possibility.
I sure do hope there is a fix for it, I've been searching since I was 7.
I only found it yesterday, at the age of 12, that's a long time searching.
But if you could find one, that would be great, I've been searching for five years, at least ten days of every month searching for Halo 2.

I'll search for a fix, if there is one...

I'm a bit "lost" in this whole porting thing, it's just I'm new to this, I've always loved Halo 2 :D

Thanks for Porting this.

Do you have a screenshot of it working wMin17?  I'm someone who likes visual proof.  If so, even I might look into getting this to work :P .

Wait....  Noob question, how do you post a picture?

Take the shot cmd-shift-3 and upload the pic that appears on your desktop to a site like imageshack.  Then, post the url they give you here.
