I think it would be nice to add an RSS feed of new ports.

I can't remember if there was one on the old site, but I think that it would be easy for people to just look at their RSS feed and see that a new port is there.

Good to see I'm not the only human on this Earth to use RSS.
I'm already working on a RSS for new and updated ports, it'll be available to the public someday soon.

yeah, i'd appreciate RSS feeds for both Ports and the front page. Currently you have an RSS feed for a port's comments, but not for the port itself. It's just totally annoying to get all the comments when you really just want to see if there's something new with the port.

Ah OK. When I press the RSS button in the search bar it comes up with some calendar community 1 thingy that doesn't work.

EDIT: it seems to work nicely. It's only ports right?
The only thing I'm missing i that it only says what's been updated and when. It would be good if you could get it to show the port page too.

Oops. I removed the (unused) calendar feed.  I don't even know why it was enabled to begin with, probably some default we've overlooked.
Since I was at it, I added an Announcements feed, showing new topics from the Announcements section.

Yeah, the feed at http://portingteam.com/rss is only for ports.  It's in beta (it's still without cache, I'll work on removing some strain from the database later), and the structure may still change.  When it's out of beta, my plan is to have two separate feeds: one for new ports and one for recently updated ports.  I'll also update the feed entry structure to be a bit more like the appshopper ones, they're pretty neat - compatibly with what our system allows, of course.

New feed template:

New Ports only: http://portingteam.com/rss/new
New and Updated Ports: http://portingteam.com/rss/updates

Once I'm done testing those two, I'll set up the http://portingteam.com/rss to be a mirror of http://portingteam.com/rss/updates (right now that one is still using the old template)

lower the feed entries from 50 to 20 or 30.
the feed becomes to heavy with that much info and pictures in them.
Hello. Sadly, I am not active here on the Porting Team anymore, and therefore I cannot give support or answer questions to any of my posted Ports or posted topics.

It's down to 20 now, it should be more than enough for any RSS reader with a reasonable refresh delay not to miss any updates.

I'll probably be reducing the amount of text included in the description exported through RSS to a reasonable size (i.e. first 1000 or 2000 characters or something like that), since it now includes the entire description.  No time to dig into the IPB documentation this week, to check how to do so without breaking the formatting, but I'll work on it next week.

I'll take any feedback about bugs or suggestions on info to include/omit from the feed entries.
