dafootballer, try if you can.

The graphics cards might be crap, but it *should* work better on supppper low settings....

especially with DirectX 10 on these graphics cards (by "these", i mean the GeForce 9400 - 9600 or similar = mac stock cards)

Stupid question because im sure you got a wine engine with it installed, but is DirectX 10/11 installed?

That could do alot.

Not sure why it wouldnt show the video, even a little bit.

I've tried literally dozens of variations of installs & cracks and I have seen that before in a windows VM.  Unfortunately I don't remember how I solved it... either I used a different crack or a 800 x 600 resolution and changed it again in the game.

The new Wineskin version will help us?
“Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly.”
Albert Einstein, quoted in New York Times, March 13, 1940

I can not even get the installer to run.  It fails with a "Can't detect Version Error" and exits.

Sorry, what exactly do you mean by "install it with RC7"?  When I run the Wineskin Configuration script in the wrapper you uploaded, (under 'advanced') there is a free text field labeled "Version" which contains the text "Wineskin RC7".  Could you point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

That would explain why EFLC would install into a CXZ wrapper but not wineskin 1.1.41 wrapper. Hopefully Doh fixes that in 1.1.42

I have no new news.  I'm stuck on the above instruction ("that's because it uses 1.1.41 and 1.1.41 has a weird install shield error install it with RC7") which I did not understand.  I am not sure how to install using one version and run the game using different version.

As I am stuck in GTA:SA unfinished due to a bug, I would love to get this working.  I need my fix!

Bhmia, he means install it some other way, then copy it into the wrapper.

RC7 is a standalone version of Wineskin (it came before Wineskin 1.0 ).

Right then, when you say "then copy it into the wrapper" what is meant by "it"?  Should I just copy the "program files" directory? What about windows system files, run-times,  registry entries?

Also while I have your ear, how can I force wine to start in a window at low resolution?  I know from past experience that the game does not work at my 30" LCD's native resolution.

by "it", i mean the game files. So

@gamedir@/  [ Game Name ] / [ game files and folders here ]

(by gamedir, the director of where the game is in the wrapper, usually c_drive/Program Files/ in wineskin and CXZ, you can change it )

You dont usually need to copy over anything else, it might break the game wrapper.

And to change your resolution, open up WineSkinSettings.app and choose 'Set Screen Options'

Thanks!

So, copying the file I got from installing GTA IV using the GTA: SA wrapper, I get the securom failure.  Exchanging the launchGTAIV.exe and I get a black window and no sound... which is even less than the footballer guy had going :(

I've tried a variety of Rockstar GTA IV updates but to no avail.

Also It's not clear to me just how many patches or cracks I really need for the game.  I found this list over at WineHQ:
CHECKLIST
Installation - OK
SecuRom - FAIL, Crack available
GFWL - FAIL, XLiveLess avillable
TEXP70 - FAIL, patch available

I am using a different "LaunchGTAIV.exe" I found under the name of "GTA.IV.Crack.Securom.Bypass.Launcher 100% working"  and different xlive.dll which I found under the name of xliveless (I am replacing the dll I found in -/windows/system32/).  I am under the impression the TEXP70 patch is in wine.  FWIW I also have a t "LaunchGTAIV.exe" I found under the name of Razor 1911 which crashes upon launch

You should get all your no-cd cracks from gamecopyworld or gameburnworld, i see that they usually work the best.

Yes, the TEXP70 patch is through wine (which has been applied to dafootballers wrapper)

The securom crack and the xliveless crack is applied by the user.

NOTE: The xliveless patches are applied to the game files directly, not to anything in the system32 folder.

OK, I've tried all manner of variations and did not progress further.

This leads me to following questions:

Are there any winetricks I should / could be trying?
Does the upcoming version Wine 1.20 have any hope of helping us in this endeavor?

What have you currently installed in winetricks so far? It will give my a broad idea on what should be changed...

----------

Wine 1.20 could possibly help us. They fix stuff in new versions, which can make newer stuff work, but they can also break stuff that used to work (thus why people still use older versions of WINE for some stuff). Now Wine 1.20 couls possibly fix some issues that we are having, but it might break some other stuff that we need. So all we have to do is wait and see.

Do you have a current changelog of whats happening in WINE 1.20??
