Porting Request:
I bought this for PC, but for some reason I could never get it to install. AppDB now has it listed as platinum, which means making a port should be possible. Yay!

Game Description:
Alice: Madness Returns is a sequel to the classic game American McGee's Alice (which is one of my favourite titles of all time). It switches between Alice's imagined version of Wonderland, and her home city of London. It's a third-person action-adventure, and Alice's second attempt to save Wonderland from danger.

AppDB Link:

AppDB Rating:
Platinum

why dont you give it a shot yourself? instructions seem very simple:

To run I've installed vcrun6 vcrun2005 (also installed vcrun2008 and vcrun2010, but don't know has it any influence on game) and xact with winetricks. Than _removed_ all dll overrides in winecfg.

To have sound working i switched to Windows 7 emulation mode, by the way, in Windows 7 mode game runs more faster.

;)

I see two WineHQ users rated GOLD in their test results with old Wine version 1.3.35 and 1.3.30. Sound like easy porting.

I don't understand why you did quoted my post too. :/

Well, I think directions are very easy using EA Installer (Disc) or Steam (Download).  I am not sure.

Here are directions/locations:
PC version - C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Alice Madness Returns\
Steam version - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Alice Madness Returns\

Hi guys, sorry for the late response. I didn't think anyone would reply to this thread!

I've never really ported anything before, so I'd be willing to give it a go. The main issue, however, is that I am unable to install the game so that it is playable; installing it in Parallels means that it hangs when it is trying to do the legitimacy check, and so it won't run. If I could fix that, maybe I'd be able to make a wrapper for it, although I don't really know how to go about it. What tool do you use? Something like WineBottler?

Cheers,
Franklint

I tried porting it about a year ago with a skidrow file, but forgot a no-cd crack and was too lazy to download one and retry. If no one else has ported this yet I'll try again.

If it isn't bothering much.

When I played it on the PC I had to use the THETA crack so it wouldn't give me a "game has been tampered with and will now close" error.

Yeah, the cracks are giving me some problem... And by some I mean a lot. Skidrow's original, Skidrow's crackfix, THETA's crackfix...
I tried all of them but it just won't run. D:

Skidrow is not easy on Wine for me... Just use DVD version with daemon tools or disk utility. (I will buy Steam version when it's on Sale Summer.)

It is "on sale" for a whopping €12.99 (~$16) in EU!.. Luckily I got Danistheman to buy it for me (it was only 3.74GBP (~$5))..

I'm quite far with a working wineskin port, but I need some help with determining what the problem[s] could be, regarding this crash log.

The crash happens during startup and generates this log:

Here is the output log of wineskin:

well when you have the retail dvd i guess, the cracks don't seem to work in wine. so that makes in complicated

EDIT: I suspect the cracks don't work in wineskin. (skidrow, theta and reloaded)
what about a cider port, could 't solve the cracks problem?

Dude, that's not the point, you will need the retail DVD version (or possibly steam version) to play the mac port. I made a port, i'm just not able to test it without the DVD. Just buy me the DVD retail so i can make and test a proper port. I will send it back and post the port here.
Or if you find me a good low prized version I will buy it myself. I will only spent my time in porting. Please help, not nag! ;)

Ok i just got this game and can tell you people on the forums that this game is now way near a platinum/gold rating . It requires way more effort to get running then i imagined . Idont know who tested the game in wine and what version they were using . But the steam version definitely does not deserve a platinum /gold rating .
Any i should have a port done by next week

i tried to make a wineskin and a ciderX port using the dvd image. but I don't get the game running using the available nodvd k's.
maybe steam is the way to do it?

I was not able to test any of my ports, cause I could not test the game in the end. I send my wineskin port to Dragonnessa who claimed he had the retail disk to test it, but he just had the same dvd image as mine. dead end . . .

we need some more porting experience here That's for sure!
