it's no worse than Steam. People are angry, but in the end they will embrace it just as they embraced Steam. Of course I won't, I don't use Steam either, but that's just me.
Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

we will have to wait and see , but opengl 4 does give developers more options when porting dx11 games to mac osx  and it also lets developers take advantage of newer graphics cards .
So i would say , yes it is good news .

I say it's probably good news for native ports but not for Wine or Cider unless they upgrade which to me seems unlikely at this point. I'd love to be wrong.

Also, current games would not automatigally take advantage of OpenGL4 unless they have paths that can be enabled for it.

I'm excited by Mirror's Edge 2. I hope EA makes a Mac version especially since it's going to be Frostbite.

I know some of you may not like this but best case scenario... 10.9 required.. OpenGL4 required.

I would happily take this over an hypothetic aspyr/feral release in 2016.

of course they will not.. they still use 2.1 even though 4 has been available on Linux for a looong time... driver support is really poor on Linux for many things past 2.1

Its great for people who want to make OpenGL 4 games.  It doesn't help one bit if the game doesn't use OpenGL 4.

Also MESAGL doesn't have support for it either. They only go up to 3.1 on  the highest in MESA 9.x from what I read.

So yeah, as far as anyone knows OpenGL4.1 in 10.9 will mostly only have relevance to newly developed or ported native games.... or if an older game had a hidden mode that can be enabled via a command line or cfg option.. or if someone updates a source port like Darkplaces or ioquake3 to support OpenGL4.

To be honest I'm getting disenchanted with Wine and wrapping. Espeically on my new nvidia.... the drivers on it seem poop for it at least for Wine.

Although , i don't mind having no used games if the actual game prices are lower.

I heard that it was in iOS 7 but I hadn't heard it was in 10.9.

From what I know It's supposed to make it easier for third party controllers to work with iOS like wireless gamepads and arcade sticks (iCade) for games. I hope it eliminates the need for things like tattiebogle 360 controller drivers that need id numbers to be hardcoded into the plist file or else the driver can't see the controller. I tried to get a wireless tekken 6 fight stick to work with it and it didn't and I know of no way to find the id numbers for a wireless stick to insert them in there either.

http://www.macgasm.n...roller-support/

"Previous attempts at adding controller support to iOS was done by multiple companies, including the ION iCade Mobile and the Duo Gamer. Unfortunately they didn’t provide a common way to support each other. So for instance one controller would support a particular number of games, while another controller would have its own library. This lead to fragmentation. Apple will have one way of adding support for controllers though, which eliminates that issue as long as everyone supports Apple’s method."

And there's the rub. Like any new API developers have to support it and like OpenGL4 I doubt it'll have a lot of significance for Wine. We shall see...

Also there's questions for me as to what the driver support will be like for different types of controllers such as xinput based controllers, or bluetooth, or etc.

Is anyone else thinking that Maverick is a stupid name? I get it, they are running out of cats, but there is other things to use, like wolf or something. Anyone knows what a tiger, or puma or leopard is, but WTF is a maverick? Even looking the word up in Wikipedia doesn't really offer much of a clue.

The reason you have to use special drivers for the 360 controller ist that the thing does not conform to the HID standard. Yes, Microsoft f's up things again by inventing their own proprietary stuff.

I'd take OS X Maverick over what it is: OS X Mavericks.

I've never really cared about these code names.
10.7, 10.8, 10.9 etc good enough for me, but I think using what appears as a plural form is probably really confusing to people outside of California.
