#95792 ProjectQ : A mother board designed to run any OS

We don't live in the 90's anymore :D The language of text on the capacitors doesn't determine what language the board can run . Language is fully software based so even on a japanese system , english operating systems will run fine .
Put that aside i think the text just has to do more with the location it was made and what it does rather then what language it runs .
really? you sound almost serious....

#94523 Why wrappers over wine?

Posted cluthz on 02 March 2013 - 11:09 PM

Speed will be the same.
Pros with normal wine is that it will take less space.
Cons is that you won't get a self-contained app, you won't have a GUI.
You will also need to make different prefixes for each app that need a different configuration.

Also you are using wine, and you are a part of the thriving wine community.
Wineskin is just a tool that puts wine into a GUI with it's own x server, you are using the same wine.

As Tesu pointed out, top of the line GPUs can play games in 4k with 30FPS.
Most gamer will rather use 60FPS with 1080p and Anti aliasing instead.
Games won't move to 4k until more cards can do that, as it seems most gamers are using laptops or equivalent.
Less than 10% of steam's user base can pull of 4k in 30 FPS, and until that changes we won't see 4K gaming.

Also unless you have a very huge screen, 1080p gaming with AA is looking amazing.
My guess is that the market will first turn into 1440p and 1600p gaming before 4k (2160p) will be common.

I can say from my own experiences that top of the line gfx from 3 years ago (like GTX285 and 5870) is still enough horsepower to run most new games at high settings with some AA perfectly at 60FPS. If this trend continues, a GTX680 and AMD 7970 will run games in 2015 at high settings too (not ultra and not maxed AA) with some AA.

Maybe a new console gen will change that, but the gaming industry will loose money if games run inadequate, and laptops is a growing market and laptops is currently well over 50% of the market.

The 650M which is the top mac laptop gfx and the preferred card in high midrange laptops wouldn't run games ok in medium settings, then people won't buy the games. I never though my GTX285 would still be that good in 2013, but the fact is still that a card like 650M still only have 60% of the power a GTX285 has makes it vial today.
I believe that in 2015 we might see laptop gfx (high midrange) approaching the power of GTX680 and 7970, so people with those cards will be able to enjoy games with their machine without sacrificing too much eye candy for the next 3 years.

Looks like a good game, i think it'll have some kind of hackshield that might pose a problem.

I'm pretty sure it would not have gold rating if it has hackshield.

My application was excellent :)
As long as no entry fields are left blank, it does this I think... mine came up as excellent as well, but i doubt that really means much.

How do you know what wrappers you need for certain games?

Well first you search for your game at the port database. If it hasn't been ported yet, then you look for it at the Wine HQ AppDB.

Using Windows (aka Bootcamp) is not "problem solved"  its basically the same answer of "just play on a PC!" ...  If that was a valid answer we could change the landing page of the website to "Use Bootcamp!" and close down the rest of the website.

Well no we'd need more explanation, because Bootcamp cannot run any games at all... and "Use Bootcamp" isn't ever a valid answer even though people say it, because i could "Use Bootcamp!" and install Linux with it and not Windows.

While bootcamp is the best way to run windows on mac, we are currently trying to run windows applications without restarting or using a virtual desktop.  That means, hmtinc, that just "use bootcamp, problem solved", is not a very good reply for this topic.

I think you mean "Virtual Machine" not "virtual desktop"  not the same thing.

I think WineHQ developers will not start working with DX11 dlls until they finished DX10 dlls first. (I have no idea what I heard.)

However, Rockstar will release GTAV for PS3 and Xbox 360 only. They don't announced about PC version yet.

we would need a mugshot on the front page of the article of what the person looks like in real life so we could all laugh at him and throw eggs at him

Okay we all know who that would be.

I am locking this topic as it is not going to happen.

Apdonato, it's a shame you didn't read into doh's previous comment correctly. She wasn't gratifying your latter comment but more so condemning it with sarcasm.

This could have been a productive thread

Merry Christmas everyone.
I did some code refactoring lately, so no new features although progress was made.
That however will stop until new year. Spending some time with the family. ;)
