#97312 [REQ] Fez!

Posted UnconventionalT on 04 June 2013 - 07:22 PM

So, Ethan Lee, a Mac/Linux porting extraordinaire, has gone to great lengths to reduce the amount of pain that comes about from porting a MonoGame to other platforms (ie Mac/Linux). So far, he's been able to ripout old MonoGame libs, replace them with his new SDL2# backend, and have them "just work" (ie no recompiling).

Case in point, FEZ running on osx, "native" port (no emulation/compatability layers like WINE). Notice the OSX Retina support right out of the box for a game that was compiled on Windows.

It's also semi-official that Ethan will be the one porting FEZ over to Mac/Linux, as well as perhaps creating new windows builds (due to the fact that his new solution involves using SDL2 which supports Windows/Mac/Linux). This should also make porting games in general from the XBOX (XNA studio) over to Windows/Mac/Linux much easier in general, and allow for simultaneous releases.

PS Game runs flawlessly under WINE on linux, however, as people have stated here previously, it doesn't run so well on WINE on osx (X11 or Native backend).

EDIT: If you'd like to try to get that working for yourself, I personally don't have much of a clue as to where one should start. Probably somewhere along the lines of downloading the SDL2 binaries, the SDL2# bindings, and his kickstart files, as well as the other osx-specific monogame binaries.

Is it now? I must be imagining things then whenever I fire up a game.
